    摘要: A hydrophobic microporous membrane substrate can be coated with a plasma polymerizate coating in order to reduce the pore size of the substrate to a size smaller than the original pore size but not less than about 10 A. By selecting the particular plasma polymerizate coating, the surface of the substrate may be rendered either hydrophilic or hydrophobic, while the body of the substrate retains the substrate's original properties of mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Three different methods of applying plasma polymer coatings by plasma polymerization techniques are disclosed. These membranes are suitable for separating particulate larger than about 10 A from solutions. These membranes in the form of hollow fibers can be incorporated into separatory modules.

    摘要: A piston seal device for a reciprocating compressor, having a piston slidably mounted in a cylinder bore and having a circumferential groove, and a resilient piston ring fitted in the circumferential groove of the piston and sealingly engageable with the cylinder bore. The circumferential groove includes a centrally recessed bottom wall for causing the piston ring to be resiliently and arcuately deformed to have a pair of opposite outer corner edges sealingly engageable with the cylinder bore. The piston sealing device thus provides a great sealing force both at the discharge stage and the intake stage, thereby improving the efficiency and lubrication of the compressor.

    摘要: Disc playback apparatus is provided with a rotatable carousel carrying a plurality of discs. The carousel is stopped so that a disc to be selected arrives at a predetermined position where it is removed and transferred to the playback apparatus and vice-versa. The carousel has a disc-shaped base and a plurality of disc clampers located on the base in a radial direction. Each of the clampers are formed of a disc support and a clamper member supported by a bearing provided on said disc support and have a convex portion adapted to engage with the bore of said disc. A spring member biases the convex portion of the clamper member so that the disc is held against the disc support and is selectively disengageable against the bias of said spring member so that it may be released from said carousel for transfer to said disc playback apparatus by said transfer means.

    摘要: A marine Diesel engine consists of parallel left and right engines mounted on a common bed plate having integral independent columns on which the cylinders of the engine are supported, the bed plate and columns forming the crank chambers of the engines. The exhaust and scavenging pipes for the engines are constructed as common parts, the scavenging pipe being mounted between the engines and being flexibly connected to at least one of them so as to permit relative movement between the engine upper portions. A single propeller shaft is driven at a desired low r.p.m. from the crank shafts of the engines through a gearing device consisting simply of a gear on the propeller shaft meshing with a pair of pinions each connected to one of the engine crank shafts by an elastic coupling. As compared with a conventional single bank Diesel engine, such a twin bank Diesel engine permits a ship of given dwt to be driven at the same speed with appreciable savings in fuel consumption, in engine weight, and in engine room size with a corresponding increase in cargo carrying capacity.
