Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to a method of operating a user equipment for wireless communication with a network. In some aspects, the UE establishes a connection to a network and obtains a control plane message from the network. The control plane message may include one or more types of policy information if a size of the one or more types of policy information is less than or equal to a maximum payload size of the control plane message, or information indicating at least a network location from where the one or more types of policy information may be obtained by the UE over a user plane if the size of the one or more types of policy information is greater than the maximum payload size of the control plane message, or a combination thereof. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Techniques are discussed herein for supporting periodic or triggered location of a user equipment (UE) using Early Data Transmission (EDT). A location server (LS), such as a 5G LMF, sends a request to a UE for periodic or triggered location and includes a request and/or criteria for using EDT. After confirming the request, the UE monitors for periodic or triggering events and, for each detected event, sends an event report to the LS which may include location information. In embodiments, the UE establishes a signaling connection with a RAN node but not with a core network to send the event report using EDT. The RAN node may then release the signaling connection, either immediately or after the LS returns a single response to the UE.

In some aspects, a network entity may transmit configuration information, to facilitate decompression of a header-compressed broadcast transmission, via a unicast transmission to a mobile device of a plurality of mobile devices, and may transmit the header-compressed broadcast transmission to the plurality of mobile devices in accordance with the configuration information.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to mechanisms for interworking between legacy and next generation radio access technologies (RATs) in a communication network. In some examples, a handover from a legacy access network to a next generation access network may be performed via a next generation core network. A handover request received at a next generation core network serving node may include an identifier of a next generation target cell. The next generation core network serving node may identify another next generation core network serving node to which the handover may be forwarded based on the target cell identifier or may select the next generation access network based on the target cell identifier. The next generation core network serving node may then communicate with the next generation access network to complete the handover.

Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided that enable UEs to conserve power while involved in ProSe communication. The apparatus transmits discovery class information for ProSe communication to an A-UE and to an M-UE. The discovery class information may be transmitted from a PF in response to discovery requests. Discovery class rules may be sent from the PF as a part of service authorization. The discovery class information may be transmitted from a ProSe application server as application layer signaling. The A-UE and M-UE may use the discovery class information to select a pool of ProSe resources according to the discovery class information for transmission or monitoring of ProSe communication. The M-UE may use the information to reduce the number of resource pools of resources that are monitored for ProSe communication.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may establish a dynamic coverage enhancement (CE) configuration and then autonomously transition from one CE level to another while in idle mode. The network may blindly detect the CE change during a paging procedure. For example, a mobility management entity (MME) may store dynamic CE information, and it may provide the dynamic CE information to base stations when the UE is paged. In some cases, the base stations may autonomously retransmit paging messages at different CE levels based on the dynamic CE information. In other examples, the MME may direct the base station to retransmit at different CE levels.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to mechanisms for interworking between legacy and next generation radio access technologies (RATs) in a communication network. In some examples, a handover from a next generation access network to a legacy access network may be performed via a next generation core network and a legacy core network. A handover request received at a next generation core network serving node may include an identifier of a target cell within the legacy access network. The next generation core network serving node may identify a legacy core network serving node to which the handover may be forwarded based on the target cell identifier. Packet data units may then be routed over the legacy access network and the next generation core network by mapping data flows in the next generation core network to packet data connections in the legacy access network.

Abstract: Example methods and apparatuses for managing polling in devices implementing proximity services are presented. For instance, an example method of polling management in a ProSe system is presented, which includes receiving, at a network entity, a polling message from a first UE. In addition, the example method may also include receiving, at the network entity and after receiving the polling message, one or both of a first location report associated with the first UE and a second location report associated with a second UE. Furthermore, the example method may include determining whether to generate a polling response message upon receiving one or both of the first location report and the second location report, wherein the polling response message includes a next polling time for the first UE that is based on a location reporting schedule associated with one or both of the first UE and the second UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for device-to-device (D2D) wireless communication. A device may transmit an initiation message to a base station indicating that the device desires to initiate a D2D communication session. The device may then receive a response from the base station that includes parameters for configuration of the D2D session. When it has data to send to another device, the device may transmit buffer status report (BSR) to the base station. The base station may respond with a grant of D2D scheduling assignment (SA) configured according to the previously sent parameters. For example, the message may be scrambled with a D2D temporary identity sequence. In some cases, the device may transmit a group identification (ID) code to the base station, and the group ID may be associated with an index, so an SA for that group can be reference by index.
