    摘要: An optical disk reproducing apparatus for reproducing digital signals in the form of a data frame including a lead-in block and data blocks from an optical disk including at least first and second recording surfaces each being readable from a same side of the optical disk. The data blocks include block addresses and data, and are recorded on the first and second recording surfaces. The lead-in block is recorded at a head of the data frame and includes disk information relating to a number of data blocks recorded on the first and second recording surfaces. The apparatus includes an optical pickup, a focus control circuit, a pickup movement control circuit, a disk information detection circuit which detects disk information included in a reproduced lead-in block, a block address detection circuit which detects block addresses included in reproduced data blocks, and an access/reproduction control circuit which controls the focus control circuit and the pickup movement control circuit to access the first and second recording surfaces and reproduce data blocks recorded thereon. The access/reproduction control circuit controls the focus control circuit to perform focus changing of the optical pickup to access the first and second recording surfaces in accordance with block addresses of data blocks to be reproduced and the detected disk information.

    摘要: A semiconductor laser includes a first conductivity type semiconductor substrate; a first conductivity type lower cladding layer, an active layer, and a second conductivity type first upper cladding layer, disposed in this order on the first conductivity type semiconductor substrate; a second conductivity type current confinement layer disposed on the first upper cladding layer, made of a semiconductor material containing a higher composition ratio of Al than the first upper cladding layer and having a stripe shape with a width and extending in a direction; and a second conductivity type second upper cladding layer made of the same material as the first upper cladding layer, disposed on the current confinement layer so that a central longitudinal axis of the current confinement layer is located directly opposite a central longitudinal axis of the current confinement region, and having a ridge structure with a bottom surface facing the first upper cladding layer, in contact with, and having a width larger than the current confinement layer, the grooves limiting the area in which current can flow between the lower cladding layer and the first upper cladding layer, eliminating leakage current that is not effective in generating light.

    摘要: A semiconductor laser includes a lower cladding layer, an active layer, a first upper cladding layer, an etch-stopping layer, a second upper cladding layer, and a contact layer successively laminated on a substrate, a ridge waveguide formed by selectively etching the second upper cladding layer and the contact layer with the use of a stripe-like insulating film as a mask to form a ridge, an AlAs oxide layer on the substrate and a second electrode on the substrate. Incorrect positioning does not occur between the ridge waveguide and a first electrode, reliability is improved, and the distribution of effective refractive index transverse to the resonation of the laser is reduced. A detailed method of fabricating this semiconductor laser is also provided.
