Disclosed herein is a composition for solar cell electrodes. The composition includes a conductive powder, a glass frit, and an organic vehicle, wherein the glass frit is a bismuth oxide-tellurium oxide-zinc oxide-lithium oxide-based glass frit comprising: 5 wt % to 20 wt % of bismuth oxide; 55 wt % to 80 wt % of tellurium oxide; 0.1 wt % to 15 wt % of zinc oxide; and 0.1 wt % to 10 wt % of lithium oxide. Solar cell electrodes formed of the composition have low serial resistance (Rs) and high open voltage (Voc), thus providing high conversion efficiency and good adhesive strength with respect to a ribbon.

Embodiments of methods for forming strengthened glass articles comprise providing an exchangeable glass substrate having a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) between about 60×10−7°/C. to about 110×10−7°/C., depositing at least one decorative porous inorganic layer onto at least a portion of the surface of the glass substrate, wherein the decorative porous inorganic layer comprises a glass transition temperature (Tg)≧450° C., a glass softening temperature (Ts)≧650° C., wherein the difference in CTE values between the glass substrate and the decorative porous inorganic layer is within 10×10−7°/C.; and curing the glass substrate and the deposited decorative porous inorganic layer at a temperature greater than the Ts of the decorative porous inorganic layer; and chemically strengthening the cured glass substrate and the decorative porous inorganic layer thereon via ion exchange at a temperature below the Tg of the decorative porous inorganic layer.

Crystallizable glasses, glass-ceramics, IXable glass-ceramics, and IX glass-ceramics are disclosed. The glass-ceramics exhibit β-spodumene ss as the predominant crystalline phase. These glasses and glass-ceramics, in mole %, include: 60-75 SiO2; 10-18 Al2O3; 5-14 Li2O; and 4.5 B2O3. The glass-ceramics also have a Vickers initiation crack threshold of at least about 25 kgf.

A tinted float glass includes a base glass portion comprising: SiO268-75wt % Al2O30-3wt % Na2O11-15wt % K2O0-3wt % CaO6-11wt % MgO2-6wt % and a colourant portion comprising iron, cobalt and selenium in the following ranges: Fe2O30.30-0.40wt % Co3O446-60ppm Se1-5ppm The tinted float glass is blue-grey in transmitted colour, and is suitable for architectural, automotive, and other applications. A particularly preferred embodiment of the glass has a colourant portion comprising 0.31-0.33% Fe2O3, 51-55 ppm Co3O4 and 2-4 ppm selenium, together with a light transmission (Ill D65) of 59 to 62%, a dominant wavelength of 482 nm, a colour purity of 7 to 8%, and a performance of 3 to 7%; all in a sample 6.0 mm thick. The glass may be coated with a low emissivity coating.

Glass and glass ceramic compositions having a combination of lithium disilicate and -spodumene crystalline phases along with methods of making the glass and glass ceramic compositions are described. The compositions are compatible with conventional rolling and float processes and have high mechanical strength and fracture resistance. Further, the compositions are able to be chemically tempered to even higher strength glass ceramics that are useful as large substrates in multiple applications.
