Abstract: Various systems and methods for air gesture-based composition and instruction systems are described herein. A composition system for composing gesture-based performances may receive an indication of an air gesture performed by a user; reference a mapping of air gestures to air gesture notations to identify an air gesture notation corresponding to the air gesture; and store an indication of the air gesture notation in a memory of the computerized composition system. Another system used for instruction may present a plurality of air gesture notations in a musical arrangement; receive an indication of an air gesture performed by a user; reference a mapping of air gestures to air gesture notations to identify an air gesture notation corresponding to the air gesture; and guide the user through the musical arrangement by sequentially highlighting the air gesture notations in the musical arrangement based on the mapping of air gestures to air gesture notations.

Abstract: Advanced, but user-friendly composition and editing environments for musical scores may be provided using the types, and in some cases the instances, of computing devices that will in turn consume musical score content so generated. Indeed, by integrating musical composition facilities within synthetic musical instruments that can be widely deployed on hand-held or portable computing devices, a social music network that includes such synthetic musical instruments gains access to a large, and potentially prolific, population of authors, editors and reviewers, as well as to the community-sourced musical scores that they can generate. By curating such content and/or by applying crowd-sourcing or other computational techniques to maintain quality, a social music network may rapidly deploy the new and ever evolving content that its user community desires.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to use predicted actions in VR environments are disclosed. An example method includes predicting a predicted time of a predicted virtual contact of a virtual reality controller with a virtual musical instrument, determining, based on at least one parameter of the predicted virtual contact, a characteristic of a virtual sound the musical instrument would make in response to the virtual contact, and initiating producing the sound before the predicted time of the virtual contact of the controller with the musical instrument.

Abstract: A sound production control apparatus by which a sound production mode is controlled on the basis of a player's motion even during a non-playing control operation period. An information obtaining unit 30 obtains detection information by detecting a player's motion. A sound processing unit 36 produces sound on the basis of the detection information obtained in response to operation for generating a sound trigger in the player's motion, and controls a sound production mode on the basis of the detection information obtained in response to operation for generating no sound trigger in the player's motion.

Abstract: A wearable sensor system is disclosed that provides a measurable magnetic field that changes horizontally within the range of motion of human limbs. The wearable sensor system includes a magnetic sensing device, and one or more magnet devices that provide the measurable magnetic field with a strength exceeding the Earth's magnetic field. To this end, the magnetic sensing system provides a “personal” magnetic field about a user, with that magnetic field traveling with the user and overpowering adjacent interfering fields. The wearable sensor system may include a sensor arrangement that measures a strength of the personal magnetic field and field direction to perform horizontal localization, and may send a representation of a same to a remote computing device to cause an action to occur. Some such actions include output of pre-recorded or synthesized musical notes, for example.
