Provided is an electric rotating machine that is improved in the temperature detection accuracy of a thermistor and in ability to follow up a sudden change in the temperature of a stator winding. An electric rotating machine 100 includes a rotor 50 mounted on a rotating shaft rotatably supported and a stator 30 disposed around the outer circumference of the rotor via a minute clearance between the rotor and the stator. The stator 30 includes a stator core 32 having a plurality of slots formed in a circumferential direction, a stator winding 34 which connects a plurality of segment conductors inserted into the slots of the stator core, and a thermistor 38 which measures the temperature of the stator winding. The stator winding 34 has slot portions 21 received in the slots and connecting portions 23 each of which connects the end portions of the slot portions. A temperature measuring element portion 1 of the thermistor 38 is received in a minute gap sandwiched between the connecting portions of the segment conductors at a stator coil end.

A rotary electric machine includes a stator having an open slot configuration and a plurality of stator poles with a coil positioned about each stator pole. Each coil has a plurality of electrically conductive wires defining a group of wires and the group of wires is wrapped generally around a stator pole to define a plurality of turns. At least a portion of the group of wires is twisted, and the portion of the group of wires has between approximately 1 and 5 twists per turn. A method for manufacturing electrodynamic machine conductive coils, such as alternating current induction motor stator coils. A continuous strand of insulation coated wire is formed into a generally planar elongated closed loop having a circumference and an outer surface. Thereafter a permanent insulation layer is applied to the closed loop outer surface, preferably by spiral wrapping insulating tape about the circumference of the closed loop with a tape wrapping machine. The insulating tape has a catalytic chemical compound including at least one part of a multi-part epoxy resin. The closed loop is shaped into a rigid conductive coil by application pressure, in order to conform the coil to a desired profile. Application of the permanent insulation layer to the closed loop prior to its final shaping enables machine insulation taping over a larger portion of the coil circumference and reduces need for slower and more expensive hand taping.

A method of forming an amortisseur assembly for a rotor comprises providing one or more slot amortisseurs and one or more of the end winding amortisseurs. The slot amortisseurs can be provided by shortening existing slot amortisseurs. The slot springs can replace existing slot springs, and the one or more slot springs can be longer than the existing slot springs.
