Abstract:
A floating roof suitable for use with petroleum product storage tanks having a light framework on which there is fixed a sealing screen. The framework is a double grid comprising a number of upper and lower horizontal tubes arranged one above the other which are integrated by a larger number of intermediate horizontal tubes at right angles to the upper and lower horizontal tubes. The tubes of the grid are fixed to a peripheral circular rim which is adapted to seal with the storage tank.
Abstract:
A lubricant suitable for all the current specifications for turbine engines for supersonic transport aircraft is based on a hindered ester (e.g. PB 520) and contains an alkylated aromatic amine antioxidant, a copper passivator, and a neutral phosphate and an amine salt of a dialkyl hydrogen phosphate as load carrying additives. Optionally the lubricant may also contain a hydrolytic stability improver, a dispersant polymer, a lead corrosion inhibitor and a dialkyl phosphite load carrying additive.
Abstract:
A flowmeter has a reciprocating membrane displacement unit and is fitted with an impulse transmitter. The impulse transmitter produces pulses which are counted by a counting mechanism, the number of pulses being dependent upon the position of the displacement unit. Further the impulse transmitter produces a plurality of impulses per stroke of the displacement unit, each pulse thus being allocated only to a relatively small volume.
Abstract:
Copolymers useful as shear stable viscosity index improvers, are graft copolymers of polyisobutylene onto a polystyrene backbone. The copolymers are formed by the grafting of polyisobutylene onto the polystyrene backbone using Friedel Crafts catalysts.
Abstract:
Antioxidant composition comprises a synergistic mixture of a diamine, e.g. N,N,N''-tris-(4-t-octylphenyl)-4-t-octyl-1,2phenylene diamine, di-DODPA, and an alkali metal derivative of the same or similar diamine. The composition is particularly suitable for use in synthetic ester lubricants.
Abstract:
Tank filling monitor based on the attenuation of a light signal transmitted by an isosceles prism with total internal reflection as the prism is progressively immersed in a liquid of differing refractive index from the atmosphere. Optical fibres of appropriate length may be used to convey the incident light from the source to the prism and from the prism to a light detector.
Abstract:
A pipeline having an outer diameter of at least 15 inches and a wall thickness of not more than 1 inch has a steel sleeve, whose wall thickness is from 1 to 1 1/2 times that of the pipe. The difference between the outer diameter of the pipe and the inner diameter of the sleeve is from 1 to 4 inches, and the annular space can be filled with cement or bitumen. The purpose of the sleeve is to arrest the propagation of a buckle.
Abstract:
The penetration/temperature properties of a bitumen are improved by adding a solvent such as an aromatic extract and a rubber formed from ethylene, propylene and third ethylenic compound (e.g., cyclopentadiene dimer). Sulphur and/or polyolefine (polyethylene) may also be added.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an improved hydrocarbon fermentation process which comprises cultivating a straight chain paraffinic hydrocarbon consuming micro-organism in the presence of a feedstock consisting at least in part of a straight chain hydrocarbon, recovering a fraction comprising the micro-organism and at least some aqueous medium and residual hydrocarbon, adding a surface active agent and subjecting the resulting mixture to phase separation to recover (a) a treated fraction comprising the micro-organism together with an aqueous phase and some residual hydrocarbon fraction and (b) a hydrocarbon fraction and subjecting the treated fraction to solvent extraction to remove lipids and associated hydrocarbons from said microorganism.
Abstract:
LUBRICATING OIL AND GASOLINE ARE PRODUCED BY HYDROCRACKING A PETROLEUM FEEDSTOCK BOILING ABOVE 350*C. USING A CATALYST OF A HYDROGENATING METAL AND AN ALKALI METAL DEFICIENT FAUJASITE AT 350-450*C. AND 70-265 BARS GAUGE IN THE PRESENCE OF NH3 AND H2S WHICH ARE PREFERABLY PRODUCED BY USING A N&S CONTAINING FEEDSTOCK. THE PREFERRED FAUJASITE CONTAINS AN AKALINE EARTH METAL, PARTICULARLY MAGNESIUM AND THE PREFERRED HYDROGENATING METAL IS 0.01-5% WT OF PT GROUP METAL. THE CONVERSION MAY BE FROM 40-95% WT., PARTICULARLY 60-95% WT. THE NH3 AND H2S MAY BE PRODUCED FROM THE FEEDSTOCK IN SITU OR PREFERABLY BY A PERLIMINARY DENITROGENATION AND DESULPHURIZATION WITH THE TOTAL EFFLUENT PASSING TO THE HYDROCRACKING ZONE.
