    摘要: An extended life capacitor is disclosed in which an enclosing body is made from a tantalum can and tantalum cap and enclosing a plurality of double layer capacitor cells. Each of the capacitor cells includes a conductive material, such as activated carbon, with an aqueous electrolyte therein such as dilute sulfuric acid. In the preferred embodiment, this is about 38% by weight of sulfuric acid, and the remainder water. Lead-ins are provided to make electronic connection to the two ends of the capacitor cell stack as anode and cathode electrodes. The entire unit is hermetically sealed to inhibit the loss of electrolyte from the capacitor body to less than 2% per year, and the electrodes are at least partly coated with a noble metal such as gold to limit the establishment of a spurious capacitor which would be in series with the stack of plurality cells, which would otherwise greatly decrease the capacity of the entire unit.

    摘要: The invention provides a composite carbon or graphite having desirable properties such as corrosion and wear resistance. The invention combines a graphite substrate with a protective porous zone of silicon carbide. The whole body of graphite plus silicon carbide then is infiltrated with aluminum phosphate. An adhered barrier of silicon carbide, ranging in thickness between 0.015 and 0.050 inch thick is integrated with a graphite stratum to form a very hard surface, resistant to mechanical and chemical wear. The silicon carbide barrier is closely compatible to the graphite substrate, in resistance to thermal shock and in qualities of thermal expansion. In order to improve oxidation resistance further, a new composition was formed by infiltrating aluminum phosphate through the silicon carbide into the graphite to form a single body of composite graphite.

    摘要: The present invention includes a system for mounting a sensor probe through the wall of a chemical vessel or other fluid container such that a sensing element can be located within. The system includes means for maintaining the sensing probe within the vessel in a fluid-tight, elevated temperature-resistant and corrosion-resistant seal. The system further includes provisions for removing, from the exterior of the reactor vessel, the sensing probe from the fixed sensing probe holder assembly which is within the interior of the reactor vessel. Further, means are included by which a sensing probe of an extended length which is mounted through the top of a chemical reactor vessel, can be inserted into and removed from the reaction vessel even with a low overhead situation above the uppermost portion of that reactor vessel.

    摘要: An electrohydraulic drive for process line equipment, especially a spooler that winds and pays out an indefinite length of metallic strand, varies the output torque of a hydraulic motor by controlling its displacement and the pressure differential between its inlet and outlet. A valve controlled by a proportional actuator reduces the supply pressure of the hydraulic fluid in a feed line for the motor. A sequence valve located in a return line from the motor maintains the pressure at the motor outlet at a preselected and adjustable value. During braking, fluid from the return line is directed to a regeneration circuit that includes a flow divider returning one portion of the flow to the feed line and another portion to a supply reservoir. A servo-amplifier circuit includes an integrating amplifier that compares the actual rotation speed of the motor to a speed command signal. An analog multiplier produces a control signal for the proportional actuator. In the preferred form a tensiometer monitors strand tension and produces an input signal to a computer that modifies the pressure limit signals. The computer also controls the speed command and displacement of the motor. A hydraulic cylinder controls the linear traversing movement of the spooler under the control of a high speed servo valve that in turn is controlled by electronic circuitry. Position, velocity and rotation speed transducers for the spooler and a position transducer for the strand provide input signals to the circuitry.

    摘要: An expansion joint for connecting pipe ends includes a fluorocarbon polymer tube having a reinforcing fabric embedded within it. The ends of the tube have radially extending flanges which are adapted to be in sealing relationship with the pipe ends. The tube has an annular arch spaced between the tube flanges. Metal stub ends having a radially extending flange at one end are in abutting relation to the tube flanges, thereby providing support and improved sealing from the otherwise flexible tube flange. A rubber backing is fastened to the fabric embedded in the tube. A back-up ring having peripheral fastener apertures is disposed about the tube at each end of the tube. The tube flanges are compressed between the back-up ring and pipe flange when the latter two are bolted together. A washer, spaced between the backup ring and rubber back permits the ring to be rotated about the tube to allow alignment of peripheral ring fastener apertures with corresponding fastener apertures in the pipe flange.
