摘要: In a device monitor system of the invention including multiple devices, a monitor apparatus, and a terminal that are mutually connected via a network, a serial number (first identifier of physically identifying the device) and a private address of the device are sent from the terminal to the monitor apparatus by e-mail. The monitor apparatus generates an installation ID (second identifier of logically identifying the device) correlated to the received serial number (first identifier), creates a document of a link for an HTTP request including the generated installation ID, a URL of the monitor apparatus, and the received private address of the device, and sends back the document to the terminal by e-mail. The user operates the terminal to click the link for the HTTP request and send the HTTP request to the device. The device receives and analyzes the HTTP request and stores the installation ID in a preset storage location. The device monitor system of the invention enables assignment of the second identifier of logically identifying the device to the device without requiring the user to go to the installation location of the device.

摘要: The present invention provides a tape printing device for printing a desirable series of characters on a tape and cutting the tape to a label of a desirable length, and also a tape cartridge used in the tape printing device. The tape cartridge has a characteristic element readably storing specific information on the tape such as a width of the tape. The tape printing device reads the characteristic element to control printing conditions according to the type of the tape cartridge. More specifically, the tape printing device determines a variety of parameters including a number of lines and character sizes of the character series printed on the tape as well as lengths of left and right margins. When a tape of a relatively large width is set in the tape cartridge, the device increases a rotation torque of a platen for feeding the tape. When a tape of a relatively small width is set in the tape cartridge, on the contrary, the device drives only specific dot elements in a range of the tape width out of all dot elements arranged on a printing head. The characteristic element of the tape cartridge stores the specific information expressed as depths of a plurality of holes or electric data. This specific information may be updated to identify a user or detect a residual amount of the tape.

摘要: In a method for driving an active matrix type liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal panel having the structure that a set of liquid crystal layers and two-terminal active layers are connected in series between a set of column electrodes and a set of row electrodes, a display operation being carried out by applying a difference signal between each column electrode and each row electrode, the difference signal is set so as to have a voltage having an inverse characteristic to the I-V characteristic of the two-terminal active element and is applied between the column and row electrodes to thereby depress occurrence of flicker. In addition, within a period except for a selection period for which an actual display operation is carried out in the liquid crystal panel, the difference signal having amplitude voltage equal to or above the maximum amplitude voltage set for the display operation is applied between the column and row electrode sets for a predetermined period to thereby prevent degradation of display quality due to the shift characteristic of the two-terminal active element which has been driven, and due to the asymmetry of the voltage-current characteristic of the two-terminal active element between the positive and negative polarity regions thereof.

摘要: A piezoelectric/electrostrictive actuator including a ceramic substrate and piezoelectric/electrostrictive elements is disclosed. The ceramic substrate includes: a spacer plate having a plurality of windows formed in a row in the longitudinal direction of the spacer plate, and auxiliary windows formed adjacent to respective two outermost windows which are located at the opposite ends of the row of the plurality of windows, such that the auxiliary windows sandwich the row of the plurality of windows; and a closure plate superposed on one of opposite major surfaces of the spacer plate, so that the plurality of windows and the auxiliary windows of the spacer plate are closed by the closure plate to provide pressure chambers and enclosed spaces, respectively, within the substrate. The spacer plate and the closure plate are formed from respective ceramic green sheets which are laminated on each other and fired into an integral structure as the ceramic substrate. The piezoelectric/electrostrictive elements are disposed on respective portions of the closure plate which partially define the pressure chambers, respectively, but are not disposed on respective portions of the closure plate which partially define the enclosed spaces corresponding to the auxiliary windows.

摘要: A wristwatch paging receiver is provided with an antenna matching network that automatically retunes the network at the beginning of a listening interval. During the retuning operation, a control signal is applied to a variable tuning element in the matching network, such as a varactor diode, and is swept from a minimum value to a maximum value. This sweeping is desirably performed in discrete voltage steps that correspond to unit increments of varactor capacitance. A feedback signal from the receiver, such as an AGC signal, is monitored during this operation to note which varactor bias signal yields the maximum AGC signal. After the sweep is concluded, the apparatus applies to the varactor the bias voltage that yielded the maximum AGC signal during the sweeping operation. This bias voltage is maintained through the end of the listening interval. At the beginning of the next listening interval, the process may be repeated.

摘要: A radio receiver for use with a time slot paging system which receives intermittent data includes a direct coupled zero IF receiver circuit with at least one automatic gain control (AGC) amplifier stage. DC offset errors are removed from the AGC amplifier stages by a timed zero adjustment circuit that is switched into the AGC circuit just prior to the receipt of data. The resulting zero IF circuit may be miniaturized in monolithic form making it ideal for use in a wristwatch sized pager.
