摘要： A composition useful as a catalyst in solution polymerization comprises (1) a barium, calcium and/or strontium alcoholate, (2) an organoaluminum compound and (3) an organomagnesium compound. (2) and (3) may be used as a complex with (1). The compositions can be used to polymerize ethylenically unsaturated monomers like butadiene, butadiene and styrene, and isoprene and heterocyclic monomers like oxiranes, thiiranes, siloxanes, thiatanes and lactams. The catalyst composition can produce polybutadienes and butadiene-styrene copolymers having a trans-1,4 content as high as 90%. The non-terminating features of the polymerization of this invention permit the preparation of functionally terminated butadiene based polymers and block polymers containing sufficient amounts of trans-1,4 butadiene units to crystallize.

摘要： Divinyl benzene and/or diisopropenyl benzene in hydrocarbon solvent is added over a period of time at low temperature to a hydrocarbon solvent containing a C.sub.2-20 normal, secondary or tertiary alkyl or cycloalkyl lithium compound and a tertiary alkylamine having 2-4 carbon atoms prepared at low temperature to provide an initiator having an average of from 4 to 9 C-Li sites and a VPO Mn of from about 750 to 4,000. These initiators are useful in polymerizing dienes and vinyl monomers to provide star polymers having an average of from about 4 to 9 arms or branches. These star polymers among other things are useful low profile or low shrink additives for FRPs, e.g., glass fiber reinforced plastics.

摘要： A method of making radial pneumatic tires substantially reduces or eliminates sidewall indentations in the inflated tire. A plurality of cuts is made in one end of each layer of ply fabric where the end of the ply fabric overlaps the other end to form a splice which results in the generally annular shape of the ply layer. The cuts extend in a direction generally transverse to the end edge and preferably have a length which is approximately the same as the width of the overlap of the cut edge with the other edge. The cuts prevent overtensioning of the ply cords, which otherwise result in sidewall indentations.

摘要： An apparatus and method are provided for applying an envelope-type wrapping to tire bead rings. The apparatus and method are particularly useful when the wrapping material is to be applied directly over a lubricant coating on the bead ring. The apparatus includes a radially expansible drum, and an inflatable bladder that covers the drum and is interposed, along with the wrapping material, between the bead ring and the drum. According to the method of the invention, the bladder is inflated and rolled over in a desired sequence of steps to apply an envelope wrapping to the bead ring.

These initiators are useful in polymerizing dienes and vinyl monomers to provide star polymers having an average of from about 4 to 9 arms or branches. 摘要： An aramid reinforcing element or cord is dipped in an aqueous adhesive composition of a phenolic-aldehyde resin and a vinyl pyridine latex and dried. The treatment is repeated again and preferably for three times. The repeatedly treated cord is then cured with a rubber compound to give improved H-adhesion values. If desired, a primer treatment with an epoxide may proceed the aqueous adhesive composition treatments.

摘要： A composition of a blend of a carboxylated copolymer latex and an acrylate copolymer latex containing a minor amount by weight of a heat sensitizer sufficient to gel the composition and which also can contain fillers, wetting agents and stabilizers, and so forth can be used to provide a water resistant film on the surface of a hot rubber compound or composition which subsequently can be cooled rapidly with water and dried. The resulting latex coated rubber can then be stacked or assembled without sticking.
