Abstract:
On detection of an occurrence of skin sticking in the mould, the withdrawal speed is subjected to a cyclic variation which comprises a ramp from the cruising speed to a reduced, decelerated speed, a healing plateau, and an acceleration ramp from the reduced speed to the cruising speed, measures are taken to determine the ferritic potential (PF) of the steel which is being cast, to determine the gradients (d, a) of one of the two ramps as a function of this ferritic potential, and to determine the length (t.sub.r) of the healing plateau as a function of the difference between the liquidus and solidus temperatures of said steel.
Abstract:
A system with a principal hopper having balances and discharge piping fitted with a valve and a flow sensor. The lower end of the piping extends into a secondary hopper which is connected to a pipe fitting powder to an ingot mold. The powder flows from the principal hopper into the secondary hopper and flows through the pipe into the ingot mould where it spreads over a cast metal surface. When the level of powder in the secondary hopper reaches the lower end of the piping, the flow is terminated and the flow sensor initiates valve closure. The valve is reopened after a specified time period or when another sensor indicates the absence of powder. In this way, it is possible to determine powder consumption by measuring the time between two successive valve openings or closures.
Abstract:
This invention relates to accessories for audio players used for downloading, storing and playing of audio files, i.e. music or spoken word content. More specifically the invention relates to an audio player remote control system, in particular a power supply and charging unit for a digital audio player, which is coupled with a remote control receiver. The invention further relates to a remote control transmitter for controlling the digital audio player, which may be mounted on the vehicle's steering wheel. The remote control of the audio player prevents the driver from reaching to the often unfavorable located audio player for operating it which enhances safety during driving the vehicle. The power supply and charging unit, which has a built-in or external remote control receiver, can be attached to the digital audio player for providing power to the player and charging the player's battery. The remote control transmitter has an enclosure which is specifically designed to be attached to a steering-wheel. This design allows for a close and tight fitting of remote control transmitter and steering-wheel which results in a safe operation of the audio player by a driver of the vehicle. The remote control transmitter is designed so that the driver's fingers can easily reach control buttons without leaving the steering-wheel.
Abstract:
A composite structure such as a roller door comprises a plurality of rigid slats (1) arranged parallel with one another and spaced apart transversely in an array, the array of slats being sandwiched between upper (3) and lower (4) flexible sheets fixed together in the spaces (5) between adjacent slats to form flexible hinge portions. Preferably the structure is formed by advancing the array of slats (1), in the longitudinal direction of the slats through means which applies the upper and lower flexible sheets to the upper and lower surfaces of the slats and bonds the flexible sheets to the upper and lower surfaces of the slats, then passing the resulting assembly, still in the longitudinal direction of the slats, through apparatus which bears on the flexible sheets and deforms them, in the interstices between the slats, until the upper and lower sheets come together in said interstices and are bonded to each other where they come together. Thus, the slats are securely encapsulated between the flexible sheets and the portion of the flexible sheets between adjacent slats form said flexible hinge portions.
Abstract:
Process and apparatus for the manufacture of integral roller door structures of any desired length and width, and comprising longitudinally juxtaposed slats separated by integral hinge formations. Such a structure having slats of any desired length can be produced by a semi continuous moulding process in which a molten plastics material and a foaming agent are injected into a mould, the part of the structure so formed being allowed to solidify before removing the solidified structure partially from the mould, then closing mould about the remaining portion of the structure, thereafter moulding a further part of the structure within the mould onto the remaining portion of the previously moulded part and repeating the cycle as often as required. A product of any desired width, measured transversely to the salts, can be produced by welding, edge-to-edge a plurality of lengths of the product produced by the moulding technique, by means of an apparatus incorporating a heated knife which is advanced along the gap between opposing edge faces of the lengths of moulded structure to be welded, to fuse the material of said opposing faces, and further incorporating an extruder which follows the knife and injects molten plastics into said gap to unite with the plasticized opposing edge portions and form a uniform weld, the temperatures of the knife and the extrudate being independently controllable to prevent, substantially, distortion of the product being produced by the welding step.
Abstract:
A rotary conductor roll intended to be partially immersed in an electrolyte in a manufacturing line for continuously electroplating a strip (2), the roll includes, on its periphery, at least one electrically conductive active zone (3) and at least one coated zone (41) coated with a flexible material which may optionally be associated with an adhesive and which serves to seal the contact between the strip (2) and the conductive active zone (3) from the electrolyte. At least one intermediate ring (42) is interposed between said conductive active zone (3) and said coated zone (41), said intermediate ring being made of a polymer for which at least one of the following coefficients is intermediate in value between the corresponding coefficients of the material constituting the conductive active zone (3) and of the material constituting said coated zone (41), said coefficients being: coefficient of expansion, flexibility, and swelling due to contact with the electrolyte, e.g. by absorption or by chemical combination.
Abstract:
The invention relates to structures such as folding (tambour) doors comprising longitudinal juxtaposed slats and comprises a method of making such structures by introducing a molten synthetic resinous mass containing a foaming agent into a mould, permitting foaming of the mass and compressing the mass with a ribbed mould plunger to a predetermined distance above the floor of the mould to constitute the hinges.
Abstract:
Nanoparticles of amorphous aluminum oxynitride or silicon oxynitride having a very high aspect ratio are used to fill polymeric materials to provide products that have an extremely low WVTR/OTR. Such products are particularly effective for incorporation into organic light-emitting devices or the like which are susceptible to degradation from moisture and/or oxygen. Pressure sensitive and/or thermosetting adhesives filled with such particles create excellent sealants. Polymeric sheets or films made from resin in which these nanoparticles are dispersed, or intimately associated with, before extrusion exhibit very low WVTR/OTR.

This invention relates to accessories for audio players used for downloading, storing and playing of audio files, i.e. music or spoken word content. More specifically the invention relates to a control device for a digital audio player including an FM transmitter, a wireless receiver for receiving mobile phone status information and an optional charging device/power supply. The control device for the audio player comprises a wireless receiver for receiving status information from a mobile phone; an audio player interface electrically coupleable with the audio player; a control unit for controlling, via the audio player interface, the audio player based on the received status information; and a wireless transmitter for transmitting an audio signal received via the audio player interface from the audio player to an external audio system. The control device can control the operation of the audio player depending upon incoming or outgoing calls. The invention avoids that the driver must operate the audio player when a phone call is established in order to mute and/or pause the audio player and enhances safety during driving a vehicle.
