Novel silicoaluminophosphate molecular sieve compositions comprising SAPO-11 and SAPO-41 with at least about 5 wt % of in situ-produced amorphous portion. Such compositions can be uncalcined or calcined and novel processes for their preparation are described. These compositions, when loaded or impregnated with a catalytically active species such as a Group VIII noble metal are novel, and are excellent hydroisomerization catalysts.

The invention relates to a process for alkylating a hydrocarbon feed which comprises contacting the hydrocarbon feed to be alkylated with an alkylation agent in the presence of a catalyst comprising a solid acid, a hydrogenation metal, and 1.5-6 wt % of water, measured as the loss on ignition at 600° C. The presence of 1.5-6 wt % of water results in a higher activity and a higher alkylate quality compared with a comparable but drier catalyst.

The solid acid catalysts include a multimetallic (e.g. bimetallic, trimetallic or tetrametallic) component that performs a hydrogenating function for the reactivation (or regeneration) of the catalyst in the presence of hydrogen. The multimetallic catalyst includes a noble metal such as platinum or palladium. The invention also relates to alkylation processes using the multimetallic solid acid catalysts having a multimetallic component for hydrogenation.

The invention pertains to a process for the alkylation of hydrocarbons wherein a hydrocarbon feedstock and an olefin are contacted with a catalyst at alkylation process conditions. The catalyst comprises a hydrogenation function and a solid acid. The ratio between (i) the volume in catalyst pores with a diameter in the range of about 40-8000 nm and (ii) the specific length of the catalyst particles is in the range of about 0.01-0.90 ml/(g*mm). The catalyst has a total pore volume of at least about 0.20 ml/g and the volume in the catalyst pores with a diameter in the range of about 40-8000 nm is below about 0.30 ml/g.

Further, the present disclosure comprises an alkylation system that allows flexibility in the operating parameters without loss of productivity. This enhances the advantage of the solid acid alkylation process of the invention over the liquid acid processes, as the C9+ alkylate will mainly contain the desired highly branched paraffin's in the case of solid acid alkylation. By fractionation of C9+, the RON number of the gasoline alkylate after fractionation remains very high, while the final boiling point of the gasoline fraction will decrease, improving value and blending flexibility.
