Abstract: A control system is provided for precisely controlling an illumination source which forms part of a photomechanical system. The control system enables the illumination source to be controlled in accordance with the characteristics of the recording medium, the relative motion between the recording medium and the illumination source, the image to be formed on the recording medium, the dynamics of the system causing the relative motion between the source and the recording medium, variations in the illumination source and over their life, and the illumination source dynamics.
