A laser processing apparatus which is high in production efficiency, and capable of easily and automatically changing processing heads from one to another according to the type of the thermal processing to be done is disclosed. The laser processing apparatus includes a plurality of processing heads composed of a processing head for cutting work, a processing head for welding work and a processing head for hardening work. The laser processing apparatus moves one processing head toward a processing position with respect to the frame having a laser beam generator by a processing head driving unit. The apparatus includes a workpiece moving system for moving a workpiece with respect to the processing head positioned in the processing position. Therefore, a compact laser processing apparatus, high in production efficiency, and which is capable of selecting an optimum processing head from processing heads according to the type of the thermal processing to be done, results.

For forming a group or rows of nozzles in a substrate of an ink-jet head, firstly, a laser irradiation source and a masking material in which a plurality of holes arranged in two rows are formed, are arranged on an upper side of a position at which one group of rows of nozzles of the substrate is formed. Next, an ultraviolet laser is irradiated from an upper side of the masking material, and a laser which has passed through the masking material is irradiated on the substrate. Two rows of nozzles are formed in a portion of the substrate at which the ultraviolet laser is irradiated. Accordingly, by irradiation of the laser once, it is possible to form a plurality of nozzles arranged in a row.

A substrate with an optical waveguide includes a substrate having a through hole and two sides, a first optical waveguide defined in the though hole of the substrate so as to linearly extend between both sides of the substrate, a second optical waveguide defined on at least one of the sides of the substrate, and direction changing means for changing a transmitting direction of a light signal from either one of the first and second optical waveguides to the other. Each optical waveguide includes a core layer for transmitting the light signals and a clad layer formed around the core layer.

A method of optically coupling one end of an optical fiber to a waveguide formed on a substrate, such that an end portion of the fiber is fitted in a groove formed in the substrate. The groove is formed by forming a beam-shielding mask having a cutout, on the substrate such that the cutout is aligned with a part of the substrate in which the groove is formed, and by irradiating the above-indicated part of the substrate with a high-energy beam. Alternatively, the groove is formed by a cutting tool. An inclined end surface of the groove left uncut by the tool may be irradiated with a high-energy beam, through a beam-shielding mask which has a cutout aligned with the inclined end surface. The end of the optical fiber, which has a flat face or has a coned or hemi-spherical shape, is positioned for optical coupling with a portion of the waveguide which is exposed to the groove.

A nozzle plate is provided with nozzle orifices 2 through which ink is to be ejected, the nozzle orifices 2 being formed by an excimer laser. A manufacturing process for manufacturing the nozzle plate in which the nozzle orifices 2 are formed by the excimer laser uses a working lens having a numerical aperture (NA) set to 0.13 or more and 0.35 or less.
摘要:
A laser processing method irradiates an excimer laser beam at a surface of an object composed of a polymer material that absorbs the excimer laser beam. The polymeric object is substantially free of lubricants that reflect wavelengths within the range of operation of the excimer laser beam. The invention also relates to a nozzle plate of an ink jet device, which does not contain such lubricants, produced with an excimer laser beam.

A method for manufacturing a nozzle includes a step to change a spot diameter of a laser beam on a plate in which an orifice hole is formed. A device for manufacturing a nozzle includes a laser beam generating device for generating a laser beam, a work head comprising a lens to focus the laser beam on a plate, a driving device to move the work head upward and downward, a position detecting device for sending a signal indicating a position of the work head, and a controlling device for controlling an amount of the laser beam to be applied according to the signal from the position detecting device. The device for manufacturing a nozzle of the present invention changes the spot diameter of the laser beam on the plate. Therefore, the time period for forming an orifice hole in the nozzle can be shortened.
