摘要: A system for performing a medical procedure comprises a first assembly and a second assembly. The first assembly comprises an articulating probe assembly and a first housing. The articulating probe assembly comprises an outer probe and an inner probe. The outer probe comprises: multiple articulating outer links and a first connector. The inner probe comprises multiple articulating inner links and a second connector. The first housing comprises: a proximal portion; a distal portion; and an opening positioned in the first housing distal portion. The articulating probe is constructed and arranged to pass through the first housing opening. The second assembly comprises: a first carriage constructed and arranged to operably engage the first connector of the outer probe; a second carriage constructed and arranged to operably engage the second connector of the inner probe; a dual linear drive assembly configured to independently translate the first carriage and the second carriage; and a second housing comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion. The first assembly is constructed and arranged to operably attach to the second assembly. Methods of performing a medical procedure are also described.

摘要: A method includes advancing an apparatus having an elongated member transorally into the stomach. The apparatus includes a distal end effector having first and second members configured to engage tissue. The first and second members are movable relatively toward one another generally in a first plane. The method includes moving the distal end effector relative to the elongated member in the first plane such that the distal end effector is retroflexed out of alignment with the elongated member to position the first and second members for engagement with the tissue. At least one of the first and second members carries a fixation device for fixing engaged portions of tissue together.

摘要: An adjustably expandable suture anchor is provided. The suture anchor includes a pair of members, one of which includes a suture mount, which are configured to be secured together in a selected one of a plurality of positions to cause one of the members to expand by an amount that corresponds to the selected position. In one embodiment, the expandable member is an outer member, and the other member is an inner member which is progressively insertable into an opening in a body of the outer member and securable in the selected position therein. For example, the inner member is threaded into the outer member body or is inserted into the body in ratchet-like fashion. As the inner member is inserted distally into the outer member, an exterior enlargement on the inner member engages a plurality of arms which extend proximally from body, and causes the arms to progressively expand radially outwardly. Because the amount of expansion is adjustable, the suture anchor can be customized to provide the proper amount of fixation for the quality of the bone in which the anchor is installed. For example, when used in relatively soft bone tissue, the suture anchor can be expanded to a greater degree than might be required in harder bone tissue to obtain secure fixation.
