Abstract: An electrode measuring the presence of an analyte is described as one embodiment. The electrode includes a working conductor with an electrode reactive surface and a first reactive chemistry that is responsive to the analyte. The electrode further includes a first transport material that enables flux of the first analyte to the first reactive chemistry and a second transport material that supplies a reactant to the first reactive chemistry. Wherein the first reactive chemistry does not contact the electrode reactive surface while at least partially shadowing a portion of the electrode reactive surface.

Abstract: In one embodiment a system to monitor an analyte and dispense an infusate is disclosed. The system includes an on-body assembly with a first piece and a second piece. The first piece contains a sensor and a cannula and the cannula is in fluid communication with a first piece fluid channel. The second piece contains a pump mechanism connected to a second piece fluid channel. When the first piece is coupled to the second piece, the first piece fluid channel is placed in fluid communication with the second piece fluid channel to establish fluid transport from the pump mechanism through the cannula.

Abstract: A convex, generally cone-shaped working surface and a generally planar base configured to fit comfortably in a user's hand is described. The device is configured to be shape-retentive by its elastic composition such that it momentarily deforms slightly under pressure but returns in the absence of pressure to its original generally cone shape. The device in one configuration has a single apex region or working surface. The device in another configuration has two spaced apart apex regions or working surfaces. Abstract: The disclosure provides methods for fabricating a long-term analyte sensor for measuring at least one analyte in the body of a user. The analyte sensors made by these methods include a plurality of analyte contacting sensor elements and at least one structure for relaying information to and from the sensor. The analyte sensor so fabricated further includes at least one sensor protection membrane that is controllable in a manner such that sensor elements may be activated (e.g. exposed to the external environment) at different times so as to extend the useful life of the sensor. In illustrative analyte sensors, the analyte is glucose.
