摘要: A simple, highly flexible and scalable platform for making functional complex tissues with heterogeneity and irregularity is provided. The method includes combining undifferentiated cells, such as pluripotent or multipotent stem cells, with a biomaterial to make multiple undifferentiated or naïve subunits, exposing the undifferentiated or naïve subunits to different cell culture environments for induction of differentiation towards different lineages as required by that complex tissue, and combining the then functional subunits with or without the undifferentiated subunits. The differentiated subunits thus combined can be cultured under biological, chemical, and/or physical culture conditions suitable to fine-tune the structural and functional properties of the bioengineered complex tissue to form a bioengineered tissue graft that mimics the structural and functional characteristics of native complex tissue. The bioengineered tissue graft can then used to replace dysfunctional tissue.

摘要: A mechanism to connect the supporting portions of orthopaedic implants such as in the head, spine, upper limb and lower limb and thereby prevent loosening and fretting at the implant interface of an orthopaedic implant construct has been developed based on shape memory effect and super-elasticity of shape memory materials such as nickel-titanium (nitinol or NiTi) shape-memory-alloy, without the use of typical threaded fastening technique. Advantages are conferred by making the entire device, not just connecting pieces, out of shape memory alloy and having shape memory effect and super-elasticity. Heating the memory head of the device will compress the connection portion without the use of an auxiliary device (e.g. coupling member) so that the connection portion can be completely clamped down by the memory head. Further advantages are provided through the use of a two-way shape memory effect in which the memory device can be closed or tightened by heating up the ambient temperature, and re-opened by cooling down the temperature.

摘要: The present invention relates generally to a shape memory and/or super-elastic material, such as a nickel titanium alloy. Additionally or alternatively, the present invention relates to a super-elastic or pseudo-elastic material that has an initial transition temperature Af above a body temperature. The shape memory material can have a super-elasticity or pseudo-elasticity property at a temperature below the initial transition temperature Af of the material. For example, the shape memory material can have its workable temperature for producing super-elasticity or pseudo-elasticity of about 0° C. to 15° C. below the initial transition temperature Af. The shape memory material can be malleable at a room temperature, and become super-elastic or pseudo-elastic at a body temperature. In addition, the present invention relates to a method of making a shape memory or a super-elastic material. The treatment protocols can include but not limited to thermo-mechanical, thermo-mechanical, radiation, and ternary alloying treatments.

摘要: The present disclosure discusses methods and apparatus for controlling the video playback in a video playback system. In particular, a method for controlling video playback includes receiving a flip call to display video data from a flip queue buffer. Processing of the video data is then initiated. Flip acknowledgement information is issued in response to receiving the flip call information and prior to completion of the processing of video data to be displayed from the flip queue buffer. By issuing flip acknowledgement information regardless of whether the processing of the video data has been completed, video flip calls can continue to be issued at a constant rate and other processing can continue without waiting, thus resulting in better and smoother video playback and economizing processing resources. Additionally, a decision whether or not to drop a particular video frame is made based on whether a flip queue buffer from a predetermined number of flip queue buffers is available. The disclosed apparatus includes a flip manager, such as under the control of a driver, that controls the timing of video frame flips, rather than an application controlling the timing.

摘要: A secondary ignition switch system that connects to a conventional ignition switch system of a vehicle to provide a security function. The secondary ignition system includes a dashboard mounted double-pole-double-throw (DPDT) switch and a key operated secondary ignition switch. The DPDT switch controls the operation of the primary and secondary ignition switches. To start the engine the DPDT is set to a position to power the secondary ignition switch, such that the engine can be started by turning a secondary key. However, based on the interconnection of the ignition switches the steering column of the vehicle remains locked. Only until the operator uses the primary key to unlock the steering assembly can the car be driven. This system enables the engine of a vehicle to run including powering the accessory circuit (for heating/cooling and power accessories) to warm a vehicle in cold climates with minimized risk since the steering assembly remains locked. In addition, when the secondary key is removed from the secondary ignition switch no current flows to the primary ignition switch rendering the entire system disabled.
