A detector for use in imaging applications includes at least one detector array, an array of photodetectors, and a continuous light guide disposed between the detectors and the photodetectors. The light guide is continuous over the entire area of the photodetectors and detectors. The thickness of the light guide is optimized based on the shape of the photodetector array. Each detector array includes a plurality of scintillator elements disposed in an M×N array, where “M” and “N” are independently selectable and are each at least one. A mechanism for maintaining the relative positions of the individual scintillator elements with respect to each other is provided. The retainer is further provided to enhance the separation between the individual detector arrays to define distinct boundaries between the position profiles of the scintillator arrays.

A method for determining the course of another vehicle in relation to one's own vehicle by measuring the position of the other vehicle in relation to one's own vehicle with a transmitter/receiver system, such as a radar system permits course determination both on straight and on bend segments. According to the method, the side location of the other vehicle and one's own vehicle is determined at a position where the other vehicle is level with one's own vehicle, by moving the front vehicle backwards in time and/or moving the rear vehicle forwards in time, on the basis of position measurements of the position of the other vehicle. The side location of the other vehicle is compared with the side location of one's own vehicle, by which a measure of the discrepancy between the course of the other vehicle and the course of one's own vehicle is obtained. According to the invention, the position where the other vehicle is level with one's own vehicle may be determined on the basis of the inertial speed vector of the other vehicle at one or more points in time.

Each panel comprises an outer surface which is convex from side to side, upwardly converging rectilinear sides, a concave top plate member, and a convex bottom plate member. The top and bottom plate members in each ring conform to respective upper and lower inwardly downwardly sloping conical surfaces of which the apex coincides with the axis of the roof structure. Preferably, at least one ring has a number of panels which is an integral number greater than one times the number of panels of the ring above. The roof has each panel disposed with its sides laterally staggered with respect to the sides of the panels in the rings above and below, thus avoiding lines of vertical weakness, and may be formed from panels which fall within a narrow range of sizes.
