A device for the transporting of cable sections is provided where cables (19), with a length of up to about 10 meters, are transported step by step from processing station to processing station along a cable-processing line with a processing station disposed on the two sides of the cable-processing line. A cable (19), gripped on one side by a stationary gripper (15), is discharged with a cable feed device with the aid of an insertable deflector (49) into a receiver provision (11) for forming a cable bundle (20). The receiver device (11), with the cable bundle (20) on the one hand, and the two cable ends (21, 22) gripped by a gripper (18) on the other hand, are moving in a forward direction independent of each other cyclically in like fashion. The gripper (18) of a rotatably disposed transfer module (17) can be rotated during a transfer cycle by 180 degrees such that the two cable ends (21, 22) as desired can be directed toward one or toward a second side of the processing line. Instead of the conventionally required pair-wise provided processing stations for the processing of the two cable ends (21, 22), only one such station is sufficient, which is disposed either on one and/or on the second side of the processing line. The finished processed cable is discharged or pulled out of the transport container (1) at the end of the processing line.

The apparatus for infeeding a cable in a predetermined infeed direction to an automatic cable processing machine enables moving standard cables and cables of reduced wall thickness at high velocities between the drive surfaces of two revolvingly contacting or confronting drive belts of two belt drives. By separating a drive roller synchronously driven with respect to the two belt drives from the measurement drive roller of a cable length measurement device it is possible to vary the diameter and thus the peripheral velocity of such drive roller. Consequently, there can be continuously applied to the cable a tension between the belt drives and the drive roller in accordance with the direction of movement of the cable. This cable tension prevents dam-up of the cable at this region of the cable infeeding apparatus, precludes any possible lateral departure of the cable from the belt drives and affords an exact length measurement of cable sections of the cable.

The apparatus for transporting cable sections enables transporting the cable sections cyclically or intermittently along a cable section processing line by means of double grippers which grasp opposite ends of an associated cable section. These double grippers are arranged at a substantially uniform spacing from one another at the outer periphery of a transport element. The double grippers are rotationally mounted perpendicular to the direction of movement of the transport element and perpendicular to the lengthwise axis of the grasped opposite ends of the cable sections. At least at two locations of the transport element there are stationarily arranged gripper actuators for opening each closed double gripper which has been closed under the action of the force of an associated spring, once in order to receive an infed cable section, and once to release the finished-processed cable section. The opposite ends of each engaged cable section are moved past cable work stations and during a work cycle, after having previously centered the related double gripper, processed or fitted with a terminal. By incorporating a pivot device or a rotary device each double gripper together with the grasped cable section, can be latchably rotated about its axis of rotation through predetermined angles.

A retraction drive retracts the cable ends from the cutting location through the desired insulation stripping length, whereafter, during a second part of the work cycle there is cut into the electrical insulation, and during a further retraction movement of the cable ends the insulation waste is pulled off with the insulation stripping blades closed.

At the same time, after the mounting pressure has been checked, the robot gripper of the industrial robot (1) mounts the connector shell (5) completely onto the contact part (8.1, 8.2) and the perfect mounting is determined by a checking of the withdrawal pressure. The electric conductor (8), equipped with the connector shell (5), is placed by a separating motion of the robot gripper (3) of the industrial robot (1) under the fixed separator element (18).
