Abstract:
Provided herein is a method of reducing a microbial infection of a heparinized surface wherein heparin precipitation is reduced as compared to a control. In some embodiments a composition comprising ethanol and isopropanol is applied to the surface. In other embodiments, two or more ethanol compositions are applied and removed sequentially from the surface prior to contacting the surface with a biological fluid, tissue or vessel, wherein the composition in each successive administration comprises an increased amount of ethanol. Also provided is a method of reducing a microbial infection of a surface comprising applying a mucilage extract from an Opuntia ficus indica species to the surface.

Abstract:
A method of providing a high symbol rate communication system with reduced overhead bandwidth includes calculating a minimum feasible aperture length at a network operations center, setting a hub demodulator subsystem to use an aperture length calculated from the minimum feasible aperture length, broadcasting the aperture length to a VSAT, and receiving an inroute data stream from the VSAT utilizing the aperture length.
Abstract:
In a geothermal power system that includes a turbine generator, a down-hole heat exchanger, and a turbine pump assembly, various arrangements for the turbine pump assembly are described. Those arrangements address considerations related to the design of the down-hole turbine pump. In such a system, the turbine generator receives a high pressure working fluid from the down-hole system to drive a generator. The turbine generator is in fluid communication with the down-hole heat exchanger and with the turbine portion of a removably disposed down-hole turbine pump assembly. The pump portion of the down-hole turbine pump assembly is in fluid communication with the down-hole heat exchanger and a source of geothermal fluid.
Abstract:
Compounds represented by Structural Formula (I): are useful, for example, in the effective killing or reduction in rate of proliferation of cancer cells, such as in patients suffering from cancer. In addition to the compounds themselves, the invention provides pharmaceutical compositions of the compounds and method of treatment using the compounds.
Abstract:
A portable, preferably hand-held device is provided which may be used to test device loops in fire safety systems for short circuits, open circuits, ground faults and can test the response of the devices in the loop before or after the device loop is connected to the system.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a semiconductor device that includes an electrically insulating, sheet-like substrate with first and second surfaces, at least one opening, and a certain thickness. On the first surface are a plurality of electrically conductive routing strips and a plurality of contact pads; at least one of the contact pads is electrically connected with at least one of the routing strips, and may have a solder body attached. A semiconductor chip is positioned in the opening while leaving a gap to the substrate; the chip has an active surface including at least one bond pad, and a passive surface substantially coplanar with the second substrate surface. Substrate thickness and chip thickness may be substantially equal. Bonding elements bridge the gap to connect electrically bond pad and routing strip. Encapsulation material protects the active chip surface and the bonding elements, and fills the gap so that the filler surface is substantially coplanar with the passive chip surface and the second substrate surface. The support tape used in assembly is discarded.
Abstract:
A method of identifying different brands of peat moss including the steps of separation of the peat and sand by first adding water to the peat and sand mixture to enable the peat to float to the top of the water and the sand to gravitate to the bottom collecting the peat at the surface of the water and drying the peat there after grinding the peat to pass thru a sieve of small mesh then mixing the ground peat with Potassium Bromide (KBr) at a ratio in the neighborhood of 1:20 then grinding said mixture with a mortar and pestle then loading to a sample cell; then loading a ground pure KBr to a reference cell, then scanning and collecting wave spectrums of the references and samples in the range of 4000 to 600 cm−1, collect said spectrums directly from said peat/sand mixtures and dry said peat/sand mixtures in the neighborhood of 105 degrees centigrade for a 24 hour period.
Abstract:
The heart of a heat engine is a reciprocating expansion chamber, which converts heat from a hot fluid into mechanical work. The expansion chamber utilizes a refrigerant in a liquid state as an input, and heats and expands the refrigerant to move pistons and generate work. A high pressure injector injects the liquid refrigerant into the chamber under enough pressure to keep it in a liquid state until it is desirable to have it expand into a gas. A hot fluid is the heat source for the expansion chamber and cold fluid is an output. Another output is the refrigerant, now a hot, low pressure gas. A compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, forming a hot, high pressure gas, and a condenser generates liquid refrigerant and provides it to the pressure injector.
Abstract:
A biochemical agent is denatured by producing an activated cleaning fluid mist containing activated hydroxyl species wherein at least a portion of the activated cleaning fluid mist is in an activated state at substantially one atmospheric ambient pressure, and contacting the activated cleaning fluid mist to a biochemical agent.
