    摘要: The present invention provides a surface illuminator having a uniform luminance over a large area by using a laser light source, having a wide color reproduction range, and capable of suppressing a speckle noise, as well as a liquid crystal display using the same. The surface illuminator of the present invention includes the laser light source that emits a laser beam; a beam scan section that deflects and scans the laser beam; and a first plate-shaped light guide that makes the laser beam deflected and scanned by the beam scan section to be incident from an end face portion and making the incident laser beam to emit from a first major surface. Further, the liquid crystal display of the present invention includes a liquid crystal display panel and the surface illuminator, wherein the surface illuminator is used as a backlight illuminator that lights the liquid crystal display panel from backside in this liquid crystal display.

    摘要: An optical disk apparatus according to the present invention includes: a light emission section for emitting laser light; an optical system for irradiating the optical disk medium with the laser light; and an aberration control section for controlling aberration of the laser light. In one embodiment, the aberration control section repeatedly switches between a plurality of aberration setting states in a focus lock-in operation. In another embodiment, the aberration control section simultaneously sets a plurality of aberration setting states in a focus lock-in operation. As a result, a plurality of aberration setting states can be allowed to substantially coexist within a single optical system.

    摘要: An optical head device according to the present invention includes a splitting section for splitting a light beam having been reflected from an optical storage medium. The splitting section includes: a first main region transmitting a first interfering portion; a second interfering portion transmitting a second main region; and first and second sub-regions through which the first interfering portion is transmitted with a lower rate than in the first main region and through which the second interfering portion is transmitted with a lower rate than in the second main region. The splitting section splits the reflected light beam into: a first main light beam transmitted through the first main region; a second main light beam transmitted through the second main region; a first sub-light beam transmitted through the first sub-region; and a second sub-light beam transmitted through the second sub-region. The splitting section further includes a swapping section for swapping a portion of the first sub-light beam with a portion of the second sub-light beam.

    摘要: An optical information apparatus of the present invention includes: an optical pick-up head including: a light source; a diffraction unit; a condensing unit; a beam splitter; a photodetector; and a tracking error signal generator. An optical recording medium has tracks arranged substantially at a constant pitch. An average of a pitch is tp. When a main beam is placed on the track, a first sub-beam and a second sub-beam are placed between the tracks. The tracking error signal generator performs a differential arithmetic operation with respect to signals output from a light-receiving portion receiving the main beam to generate a first push-pull signal, performs a differential arithmetic operation with respect to signals output from the light-receiving portions receiving the first sub-beam and the second sub-beam to generate a second push-pull signal, and performs a differential arithmetic operation with respect to the first push-pull signal and the second push-pull signal to generate a tracking error signal, in a case where an amplitude of the first push-pull signal obtained at the pitch tp is fluctuated when the light beam is scanned in a direction orthogonal to the tracks of the optical recording medium.

    摘要: With the disc-shaped recording medium, or the disc manufacturing method according to the present invention, for both the single-layer disc and the multi-layer disc, a recording layer L0, which is to be the first layer, is at the same distance, along the direction of disc thickness, from the surface of the cover layer CVLs on which falls the laser light. For the multi-layer disc, the second layer L1 and the following layer(s) are formed at the locations which are closer to the cover layer CVLs than the first layer L0. Management information may be recorded by mobbling grooves, each layermay have tert areas, defect information, a replacement area. Thus, it is possible to improve compatibility, reliability and accessibility between a single-layer disc and a multi-layer disc. The spherical aberration for the recording/reproducing light may be controlled with respect to the selected layer.

    摘要: A photodetector, includes: a semiconductor chip that converts received light to an electric signal; and a resin body that encapsulates the semiconductor chip. The photodetector further includes a protective unit, and at least a light transmission area, through which the light passes, in a surface of the resin body on an incident side of the light is covered by the protective unit. Covering the light transmission area with the protective unit that is less in reactivity with light than the resin body can suppress deformation of the resin body due to light, thus suppressing deterioration of the optical characteristics of the photodetector.
