摘要: A method receives, at a processor of a printing apparatus, a variable information print job. The variable information print job is processed into upper planes of the record-specific objects, upper planes of the reusable objects, lower planes of the record-specific objects, and lower planes of the reusable objects. The method stores such objects within a storage medium of the printing apparatus. The method combines ones of the compressed upper planes of the record-specific objects and the compressed upper planes of the reusable objects corresponding to the record of the variable information print job using the processor to create a single compressed upper plane for the record within an output buffer of the printing apparatus and creates an ordered list (corresponding to the record) of lower plane tiles by assembling the compressed lower planes of the record-specific objects and the compressed lower plane reusable objects. The method performs a printing operation for the record of the variable information print job by decompressing multiple ones of the lower plane tiles in a predetermined order to form a lower plane of the record into an output raster page, decompressing the single compressed upper plane of the record into the output raster page, and outputting the output raster page to a printing engine of the printing apparatus to print the record of the variable information print job on print media.

摘要: There is disclosed in embodiments methods relating to the compression of printing hints. The method in embodiments generates a first set of image pixels having corresponding printing hints. The printing hints are then adjusted to produce a second set of image pixels processed in such a way that an end printed result is visually equivalent to a printed result using the first set of image pixels thereby reducing the entropy in the printing hints. The method improves the compression ratio of an image using printing hints by adjusting the printing hints of pixels that are zero or fully saturated. The printing hints are adjusted in such a way to reduce the complexity of the printing hints.

摘要: A method of modeling and enhancing the print quality of digital printing, including both electrophographic printing and photofinishing. Pixels are printed with a device such as a DMD, whose pixels provide a steep-sided intensity versus displacement curve of each light spot on the image plane. Holes placed in the pixel can be used to place a dip in the top of the curve, a feature especially useful for electrophotographic printing. The effect of this hole on the image plane can also be flattened, a feature than may be especially useful for photofinishing. The steep-sided intensity curve facilitates the ability to model and predict pixel size.

摘要: A digital photograph printer comprising a transport mechanism, a modulated light source (1206), and an exposure controller (1302). The transport mechanism for advancing a photosensitive medium (1202) through an exposure region (1200) such that said photosensitive medium advances one row of pixel locations each row period. The modulated light source (1206) is operable to selectively provide a beam of light to an array of individually modulated regions (1300, 1306, 1310) in an exposure region (1200). As the photosensitive medium (1202) moves through the exposure region (1200) the individually modulated regions in the exposure region (1200) have the opportunity to expose each pixel locations in the exposure region (1200) once each row period. The exposure controller (1302) operable to control the modulated light source (1206) based on image data provided to modulated light source. The image data comprises optical density data for each pixel in an image to be formed on the photosensitive medium for each of at least three primary colors. The controller selectively exposes the photosensitive medium at a number of exposure opportunities, each selective exposure performed for a period no greater than 50% of the row time, and the duration of at least two of the exposure periods having a non-binary relationship.

摘要: There is disclosed a system and method for assembling all of the parts of a xerographic system in a unitary housing. The unitary molded housing contains the xerographic optics, the modulator, the toner and developer cartridges as well as the printer drum. Using this unitary housing, the modulator can be aligned by using optical sensors in substitution for the printing drum during assembly, and can contain other components such as a document scanner that allows the print engine to also be used as a fax machine, or a copier.

摘要: An optical system is described for combining separate deformable mirror device images into a single image. The resulting image is a single continuous image comprising left and right halves corresponding to the original individual images. The system is particularly useful for presenting spatial light modulator images to the printing drum of a xerographic process for letter quality documents. The combined image width allows a substantially greater printing width than was previously possible.

摘要: A device for steering light and its method of manufacture are disclosed. The device in the preferred embodiment consists of a multi-layer structure on a substrate. The substrate contains at least one electrode (36) for addressing a deflectable element (16) causing it to deflect towards the activated electrode (36). Upon the deflectable element (16) is at least one support post (62) which is positioned approximately along the axis of rotation (24) of the deflectable element (16). A reflecting element (61) is supported by the post (62) and deflects as the first element (16) deflects. The second element (62) is of far greater extent than the first element (16). Additionally, the method of manufacture of such a device is disclosed.

摘要: A method for periodically steering a beam of light is disclosed comprising the steps of reflecting a beam of light off of a mirror suspended by at least two supporting elements. At least one of the supporting elements is displaced from an edge of the mirror. A periodic voltage is applied to an electrode displaced from the mirror to cause the mirror to rotate about an axis.
