    Abstract: Methods are provided for controlling the levels of acidic species when a protein of interest is expressed by host cells. One particular example of an acidic species is methylglyoxal (MGO). Reduction of acidic species such as MGO may be achieved by regulating the glucose consumption of the cell culture or by modulating the cysteine/glutathione metabolic pathways.
