Embodiments of a Next Generation Node-B (gNB) and methods of communication are disclosed herein. The gNB may be configured with a gNB central unit (gNB-CU) and a gNB distributed unit (gNB-DU). The gNB-CU may determine a route for delivery of a data packet to a User Equipment (UE) on an integrated access backhaul (IAB) of relays. The gNB may generate a physical layer (PHY) data packet in accordance with a split between functionality of a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer at the gNB-CU and functionality of a radio link control (RLC) layer at the gNB-DU. The PHY data packet may include the data packet, a PDCP header, an adaptation layer header, an RLC header, a medium access control (MAC) header, and a PHY header. The adaptation layer header may indicate one or more relays included in the route.

A method for switching from a multimedia broadcast multicast services (MBMS) download to a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)-based delivery of dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) formatted content in an interne protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) network is disclosed. The method can include a service control function (SCF) module receiving a session initiation protocol (SIP) re-invitation from a mobile device while the mobile device is receiving a MBMS download in a content delivery session including DASH formatted content. The SCF module can send a SIP invitation to an HTTP/SIP adapter to select an HTTP server for an HTTP-based delivery. The SCF module can receive a SIP acknowledgement from the HTTP/SIP adapter indicating a selection of the HTTP server for the content delivery session. The SCF module can forward the SIP acknowledgement to the mobile device indicating a switch to the HTTP server for the content delivery session.

Retransmission techniques are disclosed. These techniques may be used in networks employing contention-based access schemes, such as CSMA. For instance, a device may receive a corrupted packet from a transmitting device, and determine a cause of the corruption. When the determined cause of the corruption is an in-network packet collision, the device allows the transmitting device to send a retransmission of the packet in accordance with a contention-based access scheme. However, when the determined cause of the corruption is other than an in-network packet collision, the device provides retransmission assistance to the transmitting device. This retransmission assistance may include a channel reservation for a retransmission, and/or one or more link adaptation suggestions for the transmitting device.
