    Abstract: A torque transfer assembly includes an engine starter, an electric machine, a torque converter, and a disconnect clutch further defined as a mechanical clutch. The vehicle includes an internal combustion engine including an output shaft, and a transmission. The engine starter is adapted to be rotatably coupled to the output shaft for rotating the output shaft to start the internal combustion engine. The electric machine is adapted to be rotatably coupled to the transmission for delivering rotational torque to the transmission. The torque converter is rotatably coupled to the electric machine and adapted to be rotatably coupled to the transmission. The mechanical clutch is adapted to be rotatably coupled to the output shaft and the torque converter. The mechanical clutch is adapted to selectively rotatably couple the output shaft to the torque converter and is adapted to selectively rotatably decouple the output shaft from the torque converter.

    Abstract: A shifting system includes an input member, a disconnect, an output member, and a shifting assembly to selectively rotationally couple the input member and the output member. The shifting assembly includes an input hub having a disconnectable component engageable with the disconnect and a clutch engagement component extending radially away from an axis. A plurality of clutch plates is coupled to the clutch engagement component and is moveable between engaged and disengaged positions. A biasing member is coupled to the clutch plates to bias the clutch plates toward the engaged position, and an apply plate is coupled to the biasing member. The apply plate is moveable between a first plate position where the clutch plates are in the engaged position, and a second plate position where the clutch plates are in the disengaged position. A clutch plate carrier is coupled to the clutch plates and to the output member.

The dual-mass flywheel includes an engine side primary mass, a transmission side primary mass rotatably coupled to the engine side primary mass, and a secondary mass rotatably coupled to the transmission side primary mass. The permanently engaged starter system also includes a one-way clutch including an inner race disposed about the axis. The permanently engages starter system additionally includes a ring gear rotatably coupled to the inner race of the one-way clutch. The transmission side primary mass or the secondary mass of the dual-mass flywheel is configured to be an outer race for the one-way clutch.

    Abstract: A shifting system for a vehicle transmission includes an input member and a selectable one-way clutch rotatably coupled to the input member. The selectable one-way clutch is moveable between first, second, and third clutch positions. The shifting system also includes a disconnect coupled to the input member and moveable between first and second disconnect positions, and an output member selectively rotatable with the input member. The shifting system further includes a shifting assembly for selectively rotatably coupling the input and output members. The shifting assembly includes an input hub coupled to the input member, having a disconnectable component engageable with the disconnect, and having a clutch engagement component. Clutch plates are coupled to the clutch engagement component and are moveable between engaged and disengaged positions. A clutch plate carrier is coupled to the clutch plates and output member to transmit torque from the clutch engagement component to the output member.

    Abstract: A low-backlash multimode clutch includes a one-way bearing allowing rotation in a first direction as well as a number of actuatable pawls in one race and a number of receiving slots having engagement faces in the other race. The engagement faces are tilted such that when the pawls are actuated, any torque applied in the first direction tends to force the pawls outward but the pawls are retained inward, such as by actuator rods. In this way, the one-way clutch may be selectively locked and unlocked with zero backlash against the one-way bearing.

    Abstract: A rotor assembly for an electric motor includes a shaft, a lamination stack, a plurality of magnets including a first magnet, and a plurality of pole pieces including a first pole piece. The rotor assembly also includes a sleeve including an outer sleeve body disposed about the outer pole surface of each pole piece to retain each of the pole pieces with respect to the lamination stack, and a plurality of spacers extending from the outer sleeve body radially inward toward the shaft. The plurality of spacers includes a first and second spacer, and the first and second spacers are disposed between the first pole piece and the lamination stack to reduce flux leakage of the first magnet.

    Abstract: A permanently engaged starter system for use in a vehicle includes a flex plate. The vehicle includes a crankshaft and an engine block. The flex plate extends along and is rotatable about an axis. The flex plate is adapted to be rotatably coupled to the crankshaft. The permanently engaged starter system also includes a one-way clutch including an outer and inner race. The permanently engaged starter system additionally includes a ring gear rotatably coupled to one of the inner race and the outer race of the one-way clutch. The permanently engaged starter system further includes a starter support plate, and a pilot support plate coupled to the ring gear. The pilot support plate is fixedly coupled to the starter support plate and is configured to axially and radially align and retain the ring gear and one of the inner race and the outer race with respect to the axis.
