    摘要: A magnetic write head having a write coil configured to dissipate heat away from the write head to minimize thermal protrusion. The write coil is formed as a helical coil having upper and lower leads that are connected by electrically conductive studs formed therebetween. The first and leads extend beyond the studs to form heat conducting fins that conduct heat away from the write head where it can be dissipated into surrounding structure.

    摘要: A slider structure that allows a grounded heater element to be employed, while also allowing a decision of whether the slider is to be an “up” slider or a “down” slider to be made in a late stage in the formation of the slider. The slider includes electrical contact pads for making electrical connection with the heater element. The slider also includes a dedicated ground path formed on the slider body at a location that is removed from either of the first and second contact pads, ground path providing electrical connectivity to the slider body. At a late stage in the manufacture of the read and write head, a determination can be made as to which contact pad is to be a ground pad, and that pad can be electrically connected with the ground path.

    摘要: A magnetic write pole having a structure that prevents thermally induced pole tip protrusion. The write head has a return pole with a magnetic pedestal formed at the air bearing surface (ABS) and a back gap at an end opposite the ABS. An electrically conductive write coil having a plurality of turns passes over the return pole. A fill layer of a material having a low coefficient of thermal expansion, such as alumina is disposed between the coil and the pedestal, and may extend over the top of the coil to the back gap. A photoresist coil insulation layer may be provided between the turns of the coil to insulate the turns of the coil from one another. The photoresist coil insulation layer can also extend to the back gap. A write pole, formed above the return pole and coil is magnetically connected with the back gap layer and return pole by a magnetic shaping layer.

    摘要: The structure for a narrow pitch tape head array is disclosed. Narrow pitch is obtained by offsetting the location of the write gaps of successively stacked coplanar head arrays. A compact structure with lower fabrication cost is obtained by sharing magnetic pole layers between the stacked co-planar arrays.
