    摘要: A blank having a rectangular shaped body from which a lens pattern is cut to the desired size and shape of a frame lens opening is connected to other identical blanks to form a chain for continuous feeding to a lens pattern generator. The blanks have ball and socket hinge members symmetrically arranged on each edge with a ball hinge member on one edge being opposite a socket hinge member on the other edge. The hinge members are offset with respect to a plane passing through the center of the body between the top and bottom faces of the blank so that the pivot axis of the ball and socket hinge members on one edge is in the plane of the top face and the pivot axis of the ball and socket hinge members on the other edge is in the plane of the bottom face. The blanks are connected together in a like edge-to-like edge fashion and indicia provided to identify the nasal side of the blank alternates from side to side when the blanks are interconnected in a chain. Rack gears embossed in the margins of the bottom face are provided for complementary engagement with drive gears in a lens pattern generator to advance the blank along a travel path in the generator.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for making a pattern from a blank in accordance with a set of coordinates defining a plurality of data points and collectively characterizing the size and shape of a lens opening in an eyeglass frame is presented. A controller includes an instruction set to control the operation of a router coupled to a carraige arranged for rectilinear movement toward and away from a work station and relative to the rotation of a blank fixtured at the work station whereby a pattern is cut with the desired size and shape. The apparatus further includes a sensor and light source in the feeding and staging area of the apparatus to advance a blank to a fixturing spindle located at the work station and to determine the nasal side orientation of the blank at the work station.

    摘要: Apparatus for tracing the inner periphery of an eyeglass frame lens opening and for producing a set of coordinates each of which coordinate set describes a sensed position along the traced path. The eyeglass frame is positioned on an overhead bridge and a stylus held by a stylus holding fixture engages the eyewire groove of the lens opening and is used as a guide to move the fixture along the traced path. Encoding arms are coupled to the fixture and drive respective associated rotary encoders whose outputs represent the distance each arm has moved from a first to a second sensed location along the path. A computer operates in accordance with an instruction set to generate coordinates for each of the sensed points along the traced path whereby the set of coordinates characterizes the size and shape of the lens opening.

    摘要: An apparatus for cutting cigar wrappers with a selected profile from a natural tobacco leaf, the apparatus comprises a vacuum supporting structure on a leaf receiving member. An arrangement is provided for selecting a cut position on the leaf and oriented with respect to the leaf receiving member and a cutting platen is provided including a leaf supporting surface and an arrangement for creating a vacuum on the surface to support a leaf. The platen is positioned in a known leaf receiving location and a transfer means is provided for transferring the leaf from the leaf receiving member to the leaf supporting surface of the cutting platen. The cutter having the desired profile is provided for cutting the profile from the leaf. The platen is then shifted from its leaf receiving position to a leaf cutting position with the support surface of the platen spaced from the wrapper cutter. After orienting the platen relative to the cutter to align the cutter with the cut position for the leaf the cutter is forced against the platen to cut a wrapper from the leaf. The wrapper is then moved and transferred to a selected location for subsequent use.

    摘要: Ophthalmic lens wafers for forming a composite lens are provided wherein each front lens wafer has a front registration pattern formed on its peripheral edge, and each back lens wafer has a back registration pattern formed on its peripheral edge which is different than the front registration pattern. If the ophthalmic lens wafers include optical axes, such as horizontal axes for multi-focal segments or astigmatism axes, each registration pattern is oriented at a predetermined angle relative to the respective optical axis for facilitating alignment of the optical axes relative to each other when forming a composite lens in accordance with a particular prescription. Each lens registration pattern may be formed by a pair of notches on the peripheral edge of the wafers, or by a pair of lobes on the peripheral edge of the wafers. A receiver is also provided for holding and registering the ophthalmic lens wafers when laminating or otherwise forming a composite lens. The receiver defines a stepped recess formed by a plurality of circular-shaped steps, and each step includes at least one registration pattern which matches the registration pattern of either a front or back lens wafer, but not both. The registration patterns of the receiver may be formed by key pairs which are shaped and positioned relative to each other to mesh with a respective lens registration pattern. The key pairs may likewise be retractable for generating different registration patterns to receive different wafer types on the same step of the receiver. Alternatively, the registration pattern of the receiver may be formed by recessed surface areas for receiving corresponding lobes on the lens wafers. The recessed surface areas may likewise be formed by retractable surface sections for generating different registration patterns to receive different wafer types on the same step of the receiver.
