    摘要： An apparatus for the opening of paper bobbins and other rolls of material is provided. A flat blade is advanced from the side of a wound roll of material such that it intersects the roll over substantially its entire width. A cutting blade or other cutting mechanism then severs the layers of the roll which are outside the flat blade, and the flat blade protects the inside layers from being damaged. In preferred embodiments, a jet of air or other gas may be used to ease the insertion of the flat blade, or a gripping device which pinches the surface of the roll between opposed friction pads creates an arch in the surface of the roll through which the blade is inserted. The device is particularly suitable for use in cigarette making machines which require undamaged paper feeds.

Also disclosed is threader apparatus which is moveable laterally relative to the axis of the strip material.

    摘要： A force is applied to a tool, such as a strip steel knife, a counter-holder or the like, through a linear pneumatic drive including a pressure expandable hose closed at its ends which expands in a given direction. The hose, a reaction plate and a force output plate extend in parallel to each other and through at least one modular reaction bail form a modular drive unit. Force transmission lever means extending at an angle to said given direction are operatively interposed between the force output plate and the tool for applying the force in a plane extending at an angle or in parallel to said given direction, whereby the compactness and versatility of a cutting apparatus employing such modular drive units is enhanced. These modular drive units, possibly in combination with modular drive units which apply the force in the direction of hose expansion, are adjustably supported by an exchangeable coordinate support frame structure to form a three-dimensionally effective stamping or cutting machine in which the cutting knives may cooperate with foaming molds, counter-holders or the like and wherein the linear pneumatic drives are supported in at least one plane, possibly in three planes formed by the coordinate support frame structure.

    摘要： A pressure fluid operated knife holder comprising a cylinder having a piston and piston rod therein, and a knife head carried by the piston rod. The piston, piston rod and knife head assembly are fluid pressure actuated from an upper limit position to a lower limit position in which a male knife on the head is positioned relative to a female knife. Adjustable means is provided for initially setting the cutting edge of the male knife relative to the female knife in the lower limit position of the assembly. The male knife is supported by a mounting axially movable in the knife head between inner and outer positions to set the male knife in cutting position against the female knife, and the mounting also has limited rocking movement to equalize contact pressure between the male and female knives. Outward axial displacement of the mounting to set the male knife is accomplished by pressure fluid from the cylinder and the connections from the cylinder to the knife head are constructed and arranged so that pressure fluid cannot flow from the cylinder to the knife head until the assembly is in the lower limit position. Pressure fluid admitted to the knife head is vented to atmosphere in all positions of the assembly except said lower limit position.

    摘要： A manually operated X-Y coordinate cutter for making surface cuts with great accuracy in all three cutting dimensions. The cutting blade is rotated to cut in the X or Y direction and adjusted, in combination with a roller which contacts the work, to make cuts of uniform depth in the work. The roller and cutting blade are spring-mounted to ride smoothly over surface irregularities while maintaining a constant cutting depth. A pattern, placed between a translucent cutting surface and a translucent workpiece, is illuminated by a light box for use as a rough guide during cutting operations. X-Y dimensions of the cuts are laid out from a reference point on the pattern by positioning the cutting blade with verniers.
