A styrene-butadiene copolymer having excellent low hysteresis loss characteristic, wet skid resistance, fracture characteristics, and abrasion resistance and a rubber composition comprising the copolymer are disclosed. The styrene-butadiene copolymer has a total styrene content in the range of 33 to 42% by weight of the styrene-butadiene copolymer; a content of styrene sequences having 4 to 20 styrene units in the range of 40 to 65% by weight of the total styrene content, as obtained by measurements by NMR and GPC; a content of styrene sequences having more than 20 styrene units in the range of 5% by weight or less of the total styrene content, as obtained by measurement by GPC; a content of vinyl unit in the range of 30% by mol or less of a butadiene part of the styrene-butadiene copolymer; a sum of the total styrene value and ½ of the content of vinyl units in the range of 46 to 52%; and an inner or end structure having, for example tin-carbon bond. The copolymer and the rubber composition are used for tire treads and the like.

The object of the present invention is to provide a modified diene polymer capable of creating good reinforcing characteristics and filler dispersing effect independently of the kinds of the filler as well as a process for making the polymer and to provide a rubber composition having good fracture characteristics, wear resistance, and low exothermicity without the impairment of wet performance. The above-described object can be achieved by a process for making the polymer, said process comprising the steps of polymerizing or copolymerizing a conjugated diene monomer by using an organolithium compound as an initiator in a hydrocarbon solvent and thereafter allowing the active termination of the polymer to react with a compound having an alkylideneamino group represented by the following formula 1; wherein R, R′, R″, and R′″ each represent a group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of: an alkyl group, an allyl group, or an aryl group; and m and n are integers of from 1 to 20 and from 1 to 3, respectively.

This invention relates to an oil-extended natural rubber capable of improving a tensile strength and a wear resistance of a rubber composition, and more particularly to an oil-extended natural rubber formed by adding an emulsified extension oil to a natural rubber latex and further coagulating and drying them. An amount of the extension oil added is preferable to be within a range of 5-80% by mass based on a rubber component in the natural rubber latex and the oil-extended natural rubber is preferable to have a weight average molecular weight as converted to polystyrene of a rubber component of not less than 1,500,000.
