A method for coating a polypropylene resin molding is disclosed, comprising irradiating the surface of a molding of a polypropylene resin selected from a polypropylene and a propylene-ethylene block copolymer with an ultraviolet light having an irradiating wavelength in the region of 300 nm or less, coating the irradiated surface with a primer, and further coating the coated surface with a coating material. A method for coating a polypropylene resin molding is also disclosed, comprising coating the surface of a molding of a polypropylene resin selected from a polypropylene and a propylene-ethylene block copolymer with a primer, irradiating the coated surface with an ultraviolet light having an irradiating wavelength in the region of 300 nm or less, and further coating the irradiated surface with a coating material.

A polypropylene composition containing:(A) 10-95 parts by weight of a crystalline polypropylene,(B) 5-90 parts by weight of an ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber,(C) 1-30 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the mixture of said crystalline polypropylene and ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber, of a hydroxyl group-containing propylene oligomer, andoptionally an inorganic filler in an amount of up to 40 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the mixture of said crystalline polypropylene and ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber and a suitable amount of an additive or auxiliary, has an improved compatibility with paint-coatings, and the shaped article formed from said composition can easily be paint-coated by simply treating it with water or an organic solvent instead of laying a primer layer onto the article before applying a paint thereon.

A method for treating the surface of a molded article, which comprises a combination of the steps of:providing a molded article made of a thermoplastic elastomer composition obtained by a thermal treatment of a mixture in the presence of an organic peroxide, which mixture is comprised of (A) an oil-extended olefinic copolymer rubber of an olefinic copolymer rubber having a Mooney viscosity (ML.sub.1+4 100.degree. C.) of 90-200 and a mineral oil type softening agent, (B) an olefinic plastic, and (C) a bismaleimide compound, the ratio by weight of (A) the oil-extended olefinic copolymer rubber to (B) the olefinic plastic, A/B, being 24/76-80/20, the content of (C) the bismaleimide compound being 0.1-3 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the total amount of (A) the oil-extended olefinic copolymer rubber and (B) the olefinic plastic,contacting the surface of the molded article with a UV-rays absorbing liquid, andirradiating the surface of the molded article with UV-rays having main wave lengths of 300 nm, or less. According to the surface treatment of the present invention, the olefinic thermoplastic elastomer to which paints can hardly be applied hitherto shows good paintability and printability in addition to the inherent useful properties. Paint-coated molded articles obtained by the method of this invention find wide utility in the fields of various industries, especially in the field of automobile industry as exterior or interior parts.
