摘要: A method is disclosed for automatically shifting the subtransmission of a vehicle which is also equipped with a manual transmission operated by hand by the driver. When the driver shifts by hand to a certain gearing ratio, a vehicle operating parameter is detected, and, on the basis of this detected value, the procedure for shifting the sub-transmission is modified. Shift control of the sub-transmission is then performed in accordance with this modified sub-transmission shift procedure, while the manual transmission remains in this gearing ratio.

摘要: In a vehicle equipped with a main transmission and, in series with it, a sub-transmission which has two speed stages, wherein the sub-transmission is automatically controlled by a main control system of a sub-transmission control system according to various operating parameters of the vehicle and the engine of the vehicle, it is proposed further to provide a sub-control system which is fed with a signal which indicates operation of the braking system of the vehicle, and which generates, when the braking system of the vehicle has been operating for longer than a first predetermined time, a shiftdown signal, which is fed to the main control system so as to override it, and so as to shift the sub-transmission positively into its lower speed stage, so as to provide good engine braking. It is further proposed to so arrange the sub-control system that, when the braking system of the vehicle is in operation, and then is put out of operation for a time which is shorter than a second predetermined time, the shiftdown signal is continuously produced without interruption.

摘要: A vehicle including a steer-by-wire type steering device controlling yaw moment of the vehicle in correspondence with an operation of a steering wheel mechanically separated from each of wheels. The wheels are configured such that a steered angle cannot be changed. The steering device has a power distribution device capable of changing a distribution rate of power applied to each of the wheels, and a braking force control device capable of separately controlling a braking force for each of the wheels. The steering device controls a yaw moment of the vehicle by separately controlling the power applied to each of the wheels and the braking force in each of the wheels.

摘要: An apparatus which can accurately detect a state in a passenger compartment is provided. On the ceiling of a passenger compartment above the passenger seat, nine LEDs and three photodetectors are aimed downward, and infrared rays emitted from the LEDs are reflected by an object to be sensed and the reflected light beams are received by the photodetectors. A signal at a level corresponding to the distance to the object to be sensed is outputted from the photodetectors. A controller obtains a change with time in output of the photodetectors (i.e., motion speed from a differential value of the sensed distance, a displacement amount total from an integral value of the sensed distance, and a motion frequency), senses movement of the object to be sensed based thereon, determines whether the object to be sensed is a human, an animal, or other, and determines the kind of object. The controller then transmits a signal indicative of a result of the determination of the object to be sensed which is used to control how the vehicle's air bag is inflated.

摘要: An internal combustion engine has an exhaust system and an oxygen sensor fitted to the exhaust system including a sensor element and an electrically powered heater for heating the sensor element. A method for controlling the electrical power supplied to the heater properly and quickly heats up the sensor element after engine starting from the cold condition. At the time of starting up the engine it is determined whether or not the temperature of the engine is less than a certain value. If so, the heater is provided with electrical power to the maximum practicable amount, for a certain time interval after the engine is started up. Thereby, during engine heating up operation, the temperature of the sensor element is brought up to its minimum proper operating temperature as quickly as practicable, and accordingly it is ensured that engine performance and the quality of exhaust gas emissions at the time of such engine warming up operation are good. A system is also described for implementing this method.
