    摘要: An analyzer system for automatic column chromatography includes chromatographic columns which are mounted in a rack. A drop removal mechanism system shakes the rack to transfer the last drop of eluate from the tip of a chromatographic column to a receptacle below the tip before the column is repositioned over another receptacle and another fluid or operation is introduced into the column. This prevents one eluate from contaminating another. The chromatographic column may have an upper end which is sealed by a foil member. During use, the foil member is ruptured by lowering a pressure cylinder with a seal-punching head against it. The pressure cylinder, which is part of the pressure tip unit, is then withdrawn so that fluid can be introduced into the column via the ruptured foil member. The pressure tip unit is then lowered into sealing engagement with the column so that pressure can be applied via a bore in the pressure cylinder. The column may also have a tip portion which is originally sealed by a removable cap. The rack has a plate with aperture that is configured to receive the tip portion of the column and to provide a bearing surface for a decapper member which removes the cap. This decapper member is lowered through the aperture, and the bearing surface forces it toward the tip portion so that the cap can be pushed off. After the chromatographic columns have been used, they can be regenerated for re-use without removing them from the rack.

    摘要: A container for protecting and enclosing an electrophoretic support medium is disclosed. The container includes a top portion and a bottom portion, which when closed sealingly engage one another to form a substantially air-tight cavity therein. The bottom portion has a recess formed therein for accommodating the support medium and at least a portion of the recess has a substantially smooth planar surface. The bottom recess is defined by a protruding continuous rim which has a plurality of nubs protruding into said recess and engagable with the base sheet of the support medium, whereby the support medium is retained within the recess.

    摘要: A test kit for preparing a chemical test pad used in testing for the presence of occult blood in a specimen. The test kit is a foil package enclosing an absorbant pad bearing a peroxygen agent and a solution of guaiac in alcohol in a separate packet or compartment from the absorbant pad. The separate packet or compartment being rupturable by applying hand pressure to the outside of the foil package to mix the peroxygen agent powder on the test pad and the guaiac solution prior to removing the absorbant pad from the foil package. The method relates to performing a medical test by activating a test pad bearing one reagent by applying another reagent thereto while remaining wholly within a protective foil package. According to the method a test pad containing the peroxygen agent is wetted with a solution of guaiac in alcohol prior to removal from the protective foil package and exposure to a specimen of fecal material and water in a test for occult blood.
