    摘要: Methods and systems for pelletizing low molecular weight semi-crystalline polymers are provided herein. Polymer compositions comprising the semi-crystalline polymer and a solvent are provided to a devolatilizing device, where the solvent is at least partially evaporated under vacuum conditions, resulting in removal of heat from the polymer by evaporative cooling and crystallization of the polymer. Once the polymer has reached the desired temperature, the polymer exits the devolatilizer and is pelletized. Semi-crystalline polymers that may be used in the present invention include propylene-based copolymers, such as propylene-ethylene and propylene-hexene copolymers having a heat of fusion, Hf, from about 5 to about 75 J/g and a weight average molecular weight, Mw, from about 10,000 to about 200,000 g/mol.

    摘要: Low molecular weight semicrystalline propylene-alpha olefin copolymers containing propylene crystallinity are used as a nucleating agent in crystalline polypropylene and polypropylene copolymers. The nucleating copolymers are propylene-alpha olefin copolymers having a percent crystallinity of 5-75%, a melting point of 45° C.-105° C., and an MFR between 300 and 5000 g/10 min. Nucleated polypropylene compositions comprise a nucleating amount of the copolymer blended in a matrix of polypropylene homopolymer, or 0.01 to 9 wt % α-olefin copolymer, having a melting point greater than 110° C. The nucleating copolymer improves processing time with little or no effect on the crystallinity-associated characteristics of the matrix. The invention also provides methods of crystallizing polypropylene with the nucleating agent and of forming articles with the composition, and also provides articles formed from the composition and/or by the method.

    摘要: Improved thermoplastic polymer blend compositions comprising an isotactic polypropylene component and an alpha-olefin and propylene copolymer component, said copolymer comprising crystallizable alpha-olefin sequences. In a preferred embodiment, improved thermoplastic polymer blends are provided comprising from about 35% to about 85% isotactic polypropylene and from about 30% to about 70% of an ethylene and propylene copolymer, wherein said copolymer comprises isotactically crystallizable propylene sequences and is predominately propylene. The resultant blends manifest unexpected compatibility characteristics, increased tensile strength, and improved process characteristics, e.g., a single melting point.
