摘要： This invention relates to an implantable medical device to treat a patient. The implantable device can be an orthopedic device such as a spinal implant including, but not restricted to, a disc or nucleus pulposus prosthesis, a spinal rod assembly, or a bone fixation plate. The orthopedic device can be formed to include a metal matrix composite that provides enhanced wear and diagnostic imaging techniques. In other forms, the present invention provides an implantable medical device that includes a porous metal matrix composite that can deliver a therapeutic composition to a patient. In still other forms, the present invention provides an implantable electrical device or lead formed to include a metal matrix composite that provides lower polarization and interfacial impedance and allows enhanced sensing of the physiological signals.

摘要： A method of, and apparatus for, arthroplasty of a knee joint comprising obtaining a desired spacing of the femur from the tibia by inserting a spacer into the knee joint between the femur and the tibia. The spacer is used as a reference for securing a guide jig in position about the knee joint for guiding resection of one or both of the femur and tibia for fitting of tibial and/or femoral prostheses. A method of resecting the femur while moving the tibia through an arc of motion to remove bone to the desired depth, a method of determining the position of the guide jig, the guide jog, an alignment device and the spacer are also described.

An anchoring member extends from at least one of the vertebral endplate members toward an adjacent vertebral endplate when the implant is positioned between vertebrae. The anchoring member can be received in an anchor seat formed in the adjacent vertebral endplate without requiring the artificial disc implant to be impacted into the space between vertebrae to engage the anchoring member in the seat.
