    摘要: The invention relates to a metal halide lamp for a vehicle headlamp comprising a cylindrically-shaped discharge vessel (23) having a ceramic wall which encloses a discharge space comprising Xe and ionizable filling, and a cylindrically-shaped outer bulb (21) surrounding the discharge vessel (23). According to the invention a portion (25, 26) of the surface of the outer bulb (21) facing away from the discharge vessel (23) is shaped as a negative lens. Preferably, the portion (25, 26) encompasses a segment of the outer bulb (21) with a segment angle α in the range between 30≦α≦60°. Preferably, the portion (25) forming the negative lens is shaped as a flat surface.

    摘要: A method for controlling an angular distribution of a light-beam emitted by a light-output device (102, 200) comprising a first set of light-sources (105, 211) comprising at least one light-source configured to emit light within a first angular range (221, 231, 241) and second set of light-sources (107, 210) comprising at least one light-source configured to emit light within a second angular range (222, 232, 242), wherein the first angular range is different from the second angular range. The method comprises the steps of: receiving (401) a dimmer setting (VDS) from a dimmer (101); controlling (404), if the dimmer setting is within a first predetermined range, the first set of light-sources to emit light within the first angular range; and controlling (405), if the dimmer setting is within a second predetermined range, the second set of light-sources to emit light within the second angular range. Through the method according to the invention the angular distribution of light emitted from a single light-output device may be controlled using a single switch, thereby avoiding the need for having a plurality of switches and/or new wiring which would otherwise be required.

    摘要: An illumination system has a plurality of light emitters (R, G, B) and a light-collimator (1) for collimating light emitted by the light emitters. The light-collimator is arranged around a longitudinal axis (25) of the illumination system. A light-exit window (5) of the light-collimator at a side facing away from the light-emitters is provided with a translucent cover plate (11) provided with a switchable optical element (15) based on electro wetting. The light-exit window of the light-collimator or the translucent cover plate is provided with a light-dispersing structure (7) for broadening an angular distribution of the light emitted by the illumination system. The optical element (15) being switchable in a mode of operation reducing the effect of the light-dispersing structure (7). Preferably, the effect of the light-dispersing structure is substantially counteracted when the switchable optical element operates in the mode of operation reducing the effect of the light-dispersing structure.

The light emitter comprising a light emitting device (40) and comprising a translucent inner envelope (50) at least partially surrounding the light emitting device, the translucent inner envelope comprising a diffuser. A diameter (di) of the translucent inner envelope is smaller than a diameter (do) of the translucent outer envelope. The translucent outer envelope is connected to a base (60) not being translucent. The translucent outer envelope further comprises a symmetry axis (S). An imaginary base-plane (P) is defined substantially perpendicular to the symmetry axis (S) and intersects with a connection point (C) being part of the translucent outer envelope. The connection point is a light transmitting part of the translucent outer envelope at an interface between the translucent outer envelope and the base at a furthest distance from a center (M) of the translucent outer envelope. The light emitter is arranged inside the translucent outer envelope at a distance from the imaginary base-plane away from the base.An effect of the light source according to the invention is that the emission profile of the light source according to the invention is increased.

Each linear array of outcoupling means is arranged parallel to the linear array of light emitters. For each linear array of outcoupling means, a configuration of the outcoupling means and a configuration of the light emitters fulfill the requirement: NCU×NLC=NOU×NLO, wherein NCU is the number of clusters (C1, C2, C3, . . . ) per unit (U1, . . . ), NLC is the number of light emitters in each of the clusters, NOU is the number of outcoupling means per unit, NLO is the number of light emitters per outcoupling means. A “cluster” is the smallest repetitive collection of light emitters forming the linear array of light emitters. A “unit” is the smallest number of adjacent clusters repetitive with respect to the outcoupling means and with respect to the light emitters.
