    摘要: A process is disclosed for producing thermoplastic starch based on renewable raw materials and, if required, for further processing it into a granulate. A low viscosity starch is modified under a low shearing stress during the extrusion process and leaves the extruder with an increased viscosity in the form of a strip, threads or in other geometrical shapes. The advantages of the invention mainly lie in the improved quality of the starch products, the preservation of the mechanical parts of the extruder installation and the increase of the nominal output of the extruder.

    摘要: A panel including a starch foam core which is composed of starch, which is one of resilient foam or hardened foam; and which has a form selected from the group consisting of a plurality of strands which are straight and in essentially parallel alignment with one another, and a plurality of strands which are bent and arranged in an undulating path; and at least one outer layer composed of sheet material and provided directly on a surface of the starch foam core in engaging contact therewith; wherein the panel is prepared in a continuous process. A method for preparing the panel includes preparing a starch foam in an extruder; forming the starch foam core by extruding the starch foam in a form selected from the group consisting of strands which are straight and in essentially parallel alignment with one another, and strands which are bent and arranged in an undulating path; immediately after forming the starch foam core, directly and continuously introducing the starch foam core into direct surface contact with the at least one outer layer; and compacting the starch foam core and simultaneously bonding the starch foam core directly to the at least one outer layer to form the panel.

    摘要: Thermoplastic starch compositions formed by converting native starch or starch derivatives into thermoplastic starch by at least one hydrophobic biodegradable polymer that functions as a plasticizer for starch. The hydrophobic biodegradable polymer may be a polymer selected from the following list: an aliphatic polyester, a copolyester with aliphatic and aromatic blocks, a polyester amide, a polyester urethane, a polyethylene oxide polymer and/or a polyglycol, and/or mixtures of these. When the starch, such as in particular native starch or derivatives thereof, is mixed in the melt with the hydrophobic biodegradable polymer as a plasticizer or swelling agent, to homogenize the mixture, the water content is reduced to less than about 5% by weight based on the weight of the mixture.
