In a jet loom in which weft yarns are stored in weft yarn storing units according to a weaving command, and are jetted in the weft insertion cycles thereof, a device for controlling the storing unit comprises: rotation detecting means for detecting the rotational condition of the loom spindle, to output a spindle rotation signal; a rotation control circuit which, according to a weft yarn jetting order, calculates the number of standby cycles between weft insertion cycles, and calculates the speeds of rotation of the storing units to store weft yarns in advance according to the numbers of standby cycle, to output rotation command signals; a drive circuit for receiving the spindle rotation signal and the rotation command signal, to output drives signal to determine the speeds of rotation of the storing units; and drive means provided for the storing unit, each receiving the drive signal to drive the storing unit at a speed of rotation corresponding to the drive signal thus received, a weft yarn as long as a predetermined weft insertion length being stored in the storing units in the weft insertion cycles selected according to the weft yarn jetting order.

A jet loom comprising a weft measuring roller for continuously drawing out a weft from a supply package, a weft storage unit for temporarily accumulating and storing the weft drawn out from the supply package by the weft measuring roller, a main nozzle for jetting air to insert the weft into the warp shed, and a driving unit for sinusoidally varying the rotating speed of the weft measuring roller. The weft stored in the weft storage unit runs in a free running period in a free running mode at a comparatively high running speed. After the stored weft has exhausted, the weft is supplied for insertion directly from the weft measuring roller, so that the weft runs in a constrained running mode at a running speed constrained by the surface speed of the weft measuring roller. When the running mode of the inserted weft changes from the free running mode to the constrained running mode, the driving unit drives the weft measuring roller so that the surface speed of the weft measuring roller is higher than a speed Vf defined by: Vf=Lo/tc, where Lo is the weft length of the loom and tc is a time necessary for one weaving cycle of the loom.

A weft inserting device using a profiled reed for an air jet loom is equipped with a plurality of reed pieces each having a C-shaped guide notch. The line of guide notches forms a weft passage where weft injected from a main nozzle flies. Each guide notch has a upper wall parallel to the floor surface on which the device is placed, a deep wall perpendicular to this surface, a lower wall which gradually becomes wider toward an opening, an upper connecting portion which connects the upper wall to the deep wall, and a lower connecting portion which connects the deep wall to the lower wall. The radius of curvature of the upper connecting portion is set equal to or smaller than 1 mm, and the radius of curvature of the lower connecting portion is set greater than the radius of curvature of the upper connecting portion.

A warp insertion monitoring method and apparatus for positively protecting woven cloth from defects due to warp insertion error or failure. A warp detector is disposed on a loom so as to have a warp presence/absence detection region located at a front or rear side and in the vicinity of a reed which serves for beating a weft inserted through a shedding formed by the upward/downward motion of healed frames against a cloth fell. The presence or absence of abnormalities in respect to the positions at which warps are inserted through the reed is identified on the basis of detection information available from the output of the warp detector. Detection timing for the warp detection information is so established as to fall within a period during which the loom is stopped, so that the presence or absence of errors in respect to the warp insertion can be detected before the loom is restarted.

A computing device calculates a difference between the peak value of the signal level of the output signal corresponding to each strip pattern portion in the reflected image and the signal level of the output signal corresponding to the ground portion, divides the calculated difference by the signal level of the output signal corresponding to the reference pattern portion and detects the pattern width of the strip pattern portion wherein the division value becomes not larger than a predetermined value, thereby to obtain the coating quality of the coated surface.
