Additionally, besides other abnormal termination criteria, the dynamics of pressure changes are also monitored and the method is immediately discontinued, if pressure fluctuations are ascertained which exceed a predetermined measure.

A venting line is connected between the fuel tank and the container. A regeneration line is connected between the container and the intake tube of the internal combustion engine. A ventilation line communicates with the atmosphere and the container. A ventilation valve closes the ventilation line. A tank venting valve is disposed in the regeneration line and is triggered in an opening direction for feeding fuel vapors stored in the container. A pressure sensor detects a system pressure of the tank venting system. A method for monitoring the tank venting system includes monitoring the system pressure with the pressure sensor during the feeding of the fuel vapors, categorizing the ventilation valve as functioning improperly if a predetermined pressure threshold value is exceeded, and closing the tank venting valve.

An internal combustion engine has an intake duct, at least one cylinder that takes in air via the intake duct and an exhaust gas duct, in which the exhaust gas catalytic converter is located, and into which the combusted air/fuel mixture is ejected from at least one cylinder. Depending on measurement values that are determined by sensors, input signals for the control of actuators of the internal combustion engine are generated by means of control functions based on torsional moment and by means of a dynamic charging model of the intake duct. A measurement is determined, which characterizes the difference of a desired air mass flow into the respective cylinder from an actual air mass flow into the cylinder. Depending on the measurement, a proper or improper heating up of the exhaust gas catalytic converter is identified.

There is provided a secondary air pump and a number of individual secondary air lines, corresponding to the number of exhaust systems, for delivering secondary air to the respective exhaust systems. From the signal of at least one air mass meter, a value is determined for the total air mass flow introduced into the exhaust systems. In order to determine the air mass actually introduced into the individual exhaust systems, the output signals from the lambda probes in the exhaust systems are used to identify an uneven distribution of the air mass fed to the individual exhaust systems.

Method for checking the conversion capacity of a catalytic element for converting ozone where the catalytic element is provided as a vehicle radiator with a catalytic coating and the method of checking uses ozone sensors upstream and downstream of the radiator. The check is only carried out if predetermined enable conditions are satisfied. Only then are the values emitted by the sensors recorded and compared with one another. A variable which represents an uncorrected value for the quality of the conversion capacity is derived from this comparison. This variable is weighted as a function of at least one operating parameter of the vehicle. The weighted variable is compared with a predetermined threshold value, and, if the threshold value is exceeded, it is concluded that the conversion capacity of the radiator is insufficient.

Depending on the air/fuel ratio setpoint value, an actuator is actuated whose position affects the actual air mass flow. To implement the torque request, engine efficiency is simultaneously reduced by actuating another actuator. A measurement signal of the exhaust gas probe is detected. The air/fuel ratios of the exhaust packets are determined as a function of the measurement signal detected. At least one operating parameter affecting the air/fuel ratio in at least one of the cylinders is adapted as a function of the air/fuel ratios determined.

A method for avoiding misdetection in a diagnosis of a tank venting system for a motor vehicle includes deriving a statement about a fill level of a fuel tank by evaluating a signal of a pressure sensor in the tank venting system. To that end, prior to the diagnosis of the tank venting system, the pressure fluctuations are detected and compared with a threshold value. If the pressure fluctuations exceed the threshold value, then a conclusion is drawn that the fuel tank is full, and the diagnosis is not enabled.
