The rubber composition is formulated with (A) a combination of an ethylene-propylene copolymeric rubber and an organopolysiloxane having at least two alkenyl groups per molecule as the polymeric base, (B) a reinforcing silica filler, (C) an alkoxysilane compound and (D) a thiocarbamyl-containing organosilane compound. The rubber composition can be vulcanized with an organic sulfur compound or organic peroxide as the vulcanizing agent to give a vulcanizate having quite satisfactory mechanical properties including, in particular, greatly improved heat resistance and greatly decreased permanent compression set even without using carbon black as the reinforcing filler. The omission of carbon black in the formulation gives an advantage that the rubber may be colored in any light color.

A novel thermally curable silicone rubber composition which is useful for the preparation of silicone rubber elastomers comprises diorganopoly-siloxane gum, a polyurethane elastomer having a softening point of not lower than 100.degree. C., a reinforcing filler, and an organic peroxide. The silicone rubber elastomers cured have an excellent resistance to mineral oils and organic solvents as well as other properties that are inherent in conventional silicone rubbers.

Products from the composition have excellent chemical and mechanical properties and can be bonded to an organic synthetic rubber or natural rubber as well as metals in completely cured state.

The inventive method for forming a cured film on a substrate surface comprises coating the surface with a room temperature curable organosiloxazane polymer comprising, in a molecule, (a) at least one organosiloxane unit represented by the unit formula (a) at least one organosiloxane unit represented by the unit formulaR.sup.1.sub.a SiO.sub.(4-a)/2,and (b) at least one organosilazane unit represented by the unit formulaR.sup.2.sub.b Si(NR.sup.3).sub.(4-b)/2,in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group, not all of them being simultaneously hydrogen atoms, and the subscripts a and b are each a positive integer of 1, 2 or 3 with the proviso that a and b cannot be simultaneously equal to 3, in a molecule and subjecting the coating film to exposure to a moisture-containing atmosphere. The method is useful for forming a surface-protecting film or for imparting surface releasability.

A rubber composition, which forms a vulcanizate having excellent surface properties such as pleasant feeling of touch and slipperiness or lubricity, comprises, in addition to conventional ingredients such as an ethylene-propylene copolymer, organopolysiloxane, reinforcing silica filler, process oil and curing agent, a powder of spherical particles, such as a poly(methyl silsesquioxane) powder, in the form having a particle diameter of 0.1 .mu.m to 50 .mu.m in a limited amount. The rubber composition forms a spongy rubber vulcanizate when vulcanized in the presence of a blowing agent which, by virtue of excellent surface properties, is useful as powder puffs for make-up.

The adhesive bonding of a silicone rubber to a metal surface can be very much improved by the use of the inventive primer composition, in particular, with respect to the heat resistance and anti-oil resistance of the adhesion. The inventive primer composition comprises (a) a substantially linear diorganopolysiloxane of gum-like consistency free from aliphatic unsaturation, (b) an organopolysiloxane with the organic group/silicon atom molar ratio of 1.9 to 2.3 and having a limited amount of vinyl groups directly bonded to the silicon atoms and a viscosity of 5 to 10,000 centistokes at 25.degree. C., (c) an organopolysiloxane resin with the molar ratio of organic groups/silicon atoms of 0.5 to 1.7, (d) an organosilane compound such as vinyl trimethoxysilane or vinyl tris(2-methoxyethoxy) silane, (e) a finely divided silica filler, (f) an organic peroxide and (g) a curing agent for silicone resins, all in limited weight proportions.

The invention provides a novel elastomer composition capable of giving vulcanized rubber products with superior solvent resistance, oil resistance, heat resistance and other properties. The composition is formulated with a polymer blend of an ethylene-propylene copolymeric elastomer and a specific organopolysiloxane having certain amount of mercapto-substituted organic groups bonded to the silicon atoms as the base component admixed with a filler and a crosslinking agent or a vulcanizing agent.
