摘要: Disposable absorbent articles comprising an absorbent material and a degradable thermoplastic polymer composition comprising an aliphatic polyester and an antimicrobial composition. The antimicrobial composition includes an antimicrobial component and an enhancer component. The aliphatic polyester and antimicrobial composition are formed into webs by melt extrusion, such as nonwovens and films, that are incorporated into disposable absorbent articles, such as disposable infant diapers, adult incontinence articles, feminine hygiene articles such as sanitary napkins, panty liners and tampons, personal care wipes and household wipes to provide odor control, control of microbial growth, and control of microbial toxin production.

摘要: A composition that includes polylactide resin and plasticizer, the plasticizer having a chemical formula: wherein R may be the same or different and wherein at least one R is a branched alkyl group having a carbon chain length of C5 or greater; and R is an H or an acyl group. In another aspect, the invention provides a process for providing an semicrystalline polylactide film, the process including the steps of providing a polylactide composition that includes polylactide resin, nucleating agent, and the foregoing plasticizer. The composition is extruded as a molten sheet which is then cooled to crystallize the polylactide and provide the film.

摘要: A method for forming a polylactide film includes the steps (a) through (c). In step (a), a treated tool surface is provided with a release coating. The treated tool surface is maintained at a predetermined temperature of about the glass transition temperature of the polylactide or higher. In step (b) the treated tool surface is contacted with a molten polylactide composition to provide a polylactide film The film is at least partially crystalline, and the crystallinity of the polylactide film is enhanced due to exposure of the molten polylactide composition to the treated tool surface at the predetermined temperature. In step (c) the polylactide film is removed from the treated tool surface. Additionally, a film is provided that is made by the foregoing method, and the film may be formed into an article or a part of an article. In some cases, the article is a disposable garment such as a diaper. In other cases, the article may be a tape made with the foregoing film, where the film includes first and second major surfaces and a layer of adhesive on at least one of the major surfaces.

摘要: There is provided a laminate of a thermoplastic backing to a fibrous web. This laminate, for example, could be used as a loop laminate for use in a hook and loop fastening system or an intermittently bonded elastic fibrous laminate. The laminate comprises a thermoplastic backing layer, having a first face and a second face. The backing layer has a plurality of projections extending from at least the first face of the backing. A fibrous web is attached to the backing at the location of at least some of the projections. The thermoplastic material of the backing, at the location of the projections, penetrates into the fibrous web encapsulating at least in part fibers of the fibrous web. The fibrous web preferably penetrates into at least some of the projections. The fibrous web is generally not attached, or very lightly attached, to the backing layer over at least some portion of the distance between adjacent projections. This allows for a low cost fibrous web laminate that can be directly extrusion formed with a backing without compromising the fibrous web's performance between the attached projections.

The polymeric backing has a range of thicknesses ranging from minimum to maximum thickness, and for at least a portion of the polymeric backing, the minimum thickness of the polymeric backing is where it abuts one of the openings.

摘要: A structured surface, which includes a thermoplastic backing sheet and a first upstanding element, is disclosed. The first upstanding element includes multiple, spaced-apart posts and a single cap at the distal ends of the multiple, spaced-apart posts. The structured surface furthermore typically includes a plurality of spaced-apart, upstanding posts with caps on their distal ends, where the ratio of the caps to the posts is less than one-to-one. Also disclosed is a method of making a structured surface. The method includes providing a thermoplastic backing sheet with a plurality of spaced-apart, upstanding posts; and deforming the distal ends to form caps on at least some of the spaced-apart, upstanding posts. At least some of the caps upon forming touch at least one adjacent cap to form a conjoined cap at the distal ends of multiple posts.
