Abstract: An engine control device including: a turbocharger; an EGR device that includes an EGR passage, an EGR valve, and an EGR cooler; and a PCM that, based on an operation state of an engine, controls the EGR valve to adjust an EGR rate that is a ratio of an EGR gas amount to a total amount of gas introduced to a cylinder of the engine. The PCM controls the EGR valve such that, in a high load range and a medium load range for the engine, the EGR device recirculates the EGR gas into an intake passage; and controls the EGR valve such that an EGR rate in the high load range is lower than an EGR rate in the medium load range at a same engine speed.

The partition wall includes a communication portion for communicating between the first exhaust passage and the second exhaust passage.

Abstract: A control apparatus of an engine including an intake valve, an exhaust valve, and a variable valve timing mechanism for varying open and close timings of at least one of the intake and exhaust valves, is provided. The control apparatus includes a processor configured to execute a valve controlling module for performing, via the variable valve timing mechanism, a valve overlap in which the intake and exhaust valves are both opened on intake stroke of the engine, and a temperature estimating module for estimating a temperature of exhaust gas at a given location in the exhaust system by estimating a temperature increase of the exhaust gas caused by afterburn and accounting for the temperature increase, the afterburn occurring due to fresh air blowing through a cylinder of the engine to an exhaust system during the valve overlap.

Abstract: An intake device of an engine comprises an intercooler, an intake passage including a downstream-side intake passage, and an EGR passage recirculating exhaust gas to the downstream-side intake passage. An intake-air supply opening having an opening area smaller than an area of a downstream-side face of an intercooler core is provided at a downstream side wall of a chamber. The downstream-side intake passage includes an extension passage portion extending upwardly along the downstream side wall. The intake-air supply opening includes an upper edge portion which separates the intake air flowing from an inside wall face of the extension passage portion and forms flowing main streams of the intake air inside the extension passage portion. EGR introduction ports are arranged at positions capable of supplying the EGR gas toward the flowing main streams.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a technique for providing an engine supercharger of a reduced size allowing an exhaust gas to be introduced smoothly into a turbine scroll. A turbine for use in this supercharger includes: a turbine lead-in route, into which the exhaust gas is introduced; a turbine scroll formed continuously with the turbine lead-in route to allow the exhaust gas to swirl around inside; a turbine wheel to turn on an axis of rotation; a turbine lead-out route; a wastegate passage to bypass the exhaust gas around the turbine scroll; and a wastegate valve. The turbine lead-in route includes a throat portion having a tapered downstream portion. The wastegate passage branches from that throat portion.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a technique for providing an engine supercharger allowing an exhaust gas to efficiently act on a turbine in a wide operating range. A turbine for use in a supercharger includes a turbine housing, a turbine scroll formed inside the housing continuously with a turbine lead-in route, and a turbine wheel to turn on an axis of rotation close to a tongue portion. The turbine lead-in route is partitioned by a partition wall into first and second lead-in routes. Exhaust variable valves are provided upstream of the second lead-in route in order to change the flow rate of the exhaust gas to be introduced. When viewed in the direction in which the axis of rotation extends, a downstream end of the partition is aligned with the axis of rotation and the tongue portion.
