Abstract:
Copolymers of a cycloalkadienonorbornene and, optionally dicyclopentadiene with ethylene and an aliphatic alpha olefin of the general formula R-CH = CH2, where R is a C1 to C6 alkyl group are made by copolymerizing a mixture of the monomers in the presence of a halogen-containing catalyst obtained from a vanadium compound and beryllium or aluminium organometallic compounds. The Specification contains long lists of suitable catalyst components. The preferred norbornene is 5,6-cyclododecadieno - 41,81 - norbornene - 2, and the alpha-olefin, propylene and/or butene-1. The catalyst preparation and the copolymerization are preferably effected between 0 DEG and - 80 DEG C. The copolymerization may be carried out in bulk, or in a hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon solvent. The copolymers, soluble in boiling n-heptane, are recovered by conventional low-pressure techniques. The copolymers may be sulphur vulcanized and are then insoluble in organic solvents.
Abstract:
THERE ARE DISCLOSED HIGH-MOLECULAR WEIGHT COPOLYMERS AND MORE PARTICULARLY SUBSTANTIALLY LINEAR, AMORPHOUS COPOLYMERS OF A METHYL-SUBSTITUTED TETRAHYDROINDENE AND AT LEAST ONE MONOMER SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF ETHYLENE AND HIGHER ALPHA-OLEFINS OF THE GENERAL FORMULA R-CH=CH2 IN WHICH R IS AN ALKYL GROUP CONTAINING FROM 1 TO 6 CARBON ATOMS, WHICH ARE CAPABLE OF BEING VULCANIZED. THERE IS ALSO DISCLOSED A PROCESS FOR PREPARING THE LINEAR, AMORPHOUS, HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT COPOLYMERS CAPABLE OF BEING VULCANIZED. THE PROCESS COMPRIESES THE USE OF CATALYSTS ACTING WITH A COORDINATED ANIONIC MECHANISM.
Abstract:
Substantially linear, amorphous, unsaturated, high molecular weight copolymers of at least one monoolefin selected from ethylene and higher alpha-olefins, with 1, 4, 9-decatriene, alkyl, aryl, and arylalkyl-substituted 1, 4, 9-decatrienes, or 1, 5, 9-decatriene, are disclosed. The copolymers are sulfurvulcanizable to useful synthetic eleastomers. A process for obtaining the copolymers by copolymerizing a mixture of the selected monomers in contact with catalysts prepared from certain transition metal compounds and organometallic compounds or hydrides of Group I to III metals is also disclosed.
Abstract:
New and novel copolymerizates of ethylene and/or aliphatic alpha-olefins containing three to eight carbon atoms with nonconjugated diolefins containing at least one terminal unsaturation of vinyl type are disclosed. The copolymerizates are obtained by copolymerizing nonconjugated aliphatic diolefins containing at least one vinyl unsaturation and from five to 15 carbon atoms with ethylene or with ethylene and aliphatic alpha-olefins containing three to eight carbon atoms in the liquid phase but in the absence of halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons, with a catalyst prepared from particular vanadium compounds and alkyl aluminum halides, both the preparation of the catalyst and the copolymerization being carried out a temperature between -80*C and +10*C.
Abstract:
THESE ARE DISCLOSED ELASTIC MANUFATUCRED ARTICLES, INCLUDING ELASTIC FIBERS AND IFLMS BASED ON UNSATURATED, VULCANIZABLE COPLYMERS OF ETHYLENE, AT LEAST ONE BRANCHED ALPHA-OLEFIN, HYDROCARBON MONOMERS CONTAINNG AT LEAST TWO DOUBLE BONDS AND, OPTINALLY, PROPYLENE, WHICH COPOLYMERS ARE AMORPHOUS IN THE RELAXED STATE BUT CRYSTALLIZABLE BY STRETCHING. THE COPOLYMERS MUST CONTAIN, BY MOLES, 70-90% OF POLYMERIZED ETHYLENE, 1-29% OF POLYMERIZED BRANCHED ALPHA-OLEFIN, 0.05-3% OF THE POLYMERIZED HYDROCARBON MONOMER CONTAINING AT LEAST TWO DOUBLE BONDS, AND 0-28% OF POLYMERIZED PROPYLENE. METHODS FOR OBTAINING THE COPOLYMERS USING CATALYSTS BASED ON VANADIUM COMPOUNDS AND METALLORGANIC ALUMINUM COMPOUNDS, AND FOR EFFECTIVELY CROSS-LINKING THE COPOLYMERS ARE ALSO DISCLOSED.
