Embodiments include application of the adhesive by providing an adhesive mat having a back release liner and a top release liner opposite the back release liner, removing the back release liner, laying the mat on the substrate such as a floor, applying pressure to the mat to ensure good contact between the mat and the substrate, removing the top release liner, and positioning the tile onto the adhesive mat.

Such membrane will preferably have sufficient coating thickness and sufficiently high elongation that it will bridge joints and cracks.

Described is a skid-resistant roofing underlayment that, in its most basic form, includes three layers—a flexible substrate layer, an adhesive layer and a release liner layer. The flexible substrate comprises a woven polyolefin mesh that includes a first plurality of polyolefin tapes extending in a major direction interwoven with a second plurality of polyolefin tapes extending in a cross direction. The adhesive layer includes a modified bitumen pressure sensitive adhesive with a sufficient cohesive strength to prevent exudation of the adhesive through the flexible substrate at elevated temperatures.

An exemplary coated article comprises a body with surface coating of inorganic particles reactive with hydroxide generated from hydration of concrete or mortar to form hydration products. The articles are designed to be used with cast concrete or masonry. The inorganic particles comprise at least one of (a) aluminum oxide trihydrate; (b) silica dioxide; (c) fly ash; (d) blast furnace slag, (e) silica fume; (f) an alkali or alkaline earth metal salts; or mixture thereof. The particles improve bonding with hydratable cementitious compositions that are cast against the coated surface and allowed to set.

The protective coating layer comprises a highly reflective protective coating layer operative to bond to concrete cast against it, particularly one that is produced from an aqueous coating comprising an acrylic emulsion, a filler, and a white pigment. The pigment volume concentration of the filler plus white pigment is greater than or equal to 55% by volume. The protective coating layer protects the membrane against weather exposure, tolerates foot traffic and strongly adheres to concrete cast against it. Also disclosed is a waterproofing membrane comprising a carrier sheet, a pressure sensitive adhesive layer, a protective coating layer, and a highly releasable bonding layer. The preferred highly releasable bonding layer comprises nanoscale silica and a binder.
