    摘要： A power transmission belt having a belt body defining a tension section and a compression section and having an inside surface, an outside surface, and laterally spaced side surfaces. A canvas layer is provided on at least one of the inside, outside, and side surfaces and has a first surface abutting to the belt body and a second surface that is exposed with the canvas layer on the belt body. The canvas has ends joined by thread to produce an endless layer. A first part of the thread is exposed on the second surface of the canvas layer and is at least one of a) a twine of natural fiber and b) multi-filament twine of synthetic fibers. A second part of the thread that is exposed at the first surface of the canvas layer is a mono-filament of synthetic fiber.

    摘要： A method of forming a power transmission belt including the steps of: providing a belt sleeve defining an axis and having a rubber layer with elongate fibers embedded therein and extending generally parallel to each other in a first line; rotating the belt about its axis; providing a grinding element for cutting the rubber layer and fibers to define ribs with oppositely facing flanks; and urging the rotating belt sleeve and grinding element, one against the other in first and second steps and, as an incident thereof, causing the grinding element to define the oppositely facing flanks. The belt sleeve and grinding element are urged one against the other transversely of the first line at a first speed during the first step and at a second speed different than the first speed during the second step.

The power transmission belt has: a compression section defining a plurality of laterally spaced, longitudinally extending ribs made at least partially of rubber; a plurality of discrete, laterally extending reinforcing fibers in the ribs; a tension section outside of the compression section and defined at least partially by a rubber layer; and a plurality of discrete, laterally extending reinforcing fibers in the rubber layer of the tension section. The length of the reinforcing fibers in the rubber layer of the tension section is greater than the length of the reinforcing fibers in the ribs.

The apparatus has first and second supports on which the belt/belt sleeve can be mounted for movement in an endless path. First structure is provided on at least one of the first and second supports for reinforcing a belt/belt sleeve, mounted on the first and second supports, against movement and deformation of the belt/belt sleeve relative to the at least one of the first and second supports transversely to the endless path as the belt/belt sleeve moves in the endless path.
