摘要:
The present invention provides a method for determining a condition of aging for an optical waveguide grating. In this method, the aged deterioration curve of the optical waveguide grating is set as a form of C·t−&agr;, where t represents time, and &agr; and C represent parameters. Then, the condition of the aging is determined based on the aged deterioration curve.

This invention provides an optical waveguide having diffraction gratings with sufficiently high reflectivity, a waveguide member for obtaining the optical waveguide, and a production process thereof. An optical waveguide in which desired diffraction gratings are formed in a core and in a cladding at a predetermined portion by using a waveguide member in which germanium dioxide is added in the core and in the cladding and irradiating the predetermined portion of the waveguide member with interference fringes of ultraviolet light. By this, the optical waveguide according to the present invention reflects guided light throughout the entire mode field region, thus having a high reflectivity.

The pulse laser light source apparatus in the OTDR apparatus of present invention comprises an optical waveguide which receives and guides the light emitted from the first light-emitting end face, wherein the optical waveguide comprises a reflecting area which selectively reflects a part of light emitted from a light-emitting end face of a semiconductor light-emitting device, a core of the reflecting area comprises a first diffraction grating which is disposed in a first area and whose refractive index periodically changes along an optical-axis direction, the first diffraction grating selectively reflects, of the light emitted from the light-emitting end face of the semiconductor light-emitting device, a part of the light within a first wavelength range. And the diffraction grating is one of denvices which constitute a laser resonator.

In this diffraction grating device manufacturing method, refractive-index-change-inducing light of a wavelength that induces a change in refractive index is irradiated onto an optical waveguide, thus forming a diffraction grating through refractive index modulation along the longitudinal direction of the optical waveguide. At this time, the position of irradiation of the refractive-index-change-inducing light onto the optical waveguide is swung in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the optical waveguide.

A diffraction grating portion (12) is formed in an optical fiber (10), having a diameter of 125 .mu.m and serving to transmit light, along its optical axis. The optical fiber is concentrically surrounded by a lower coating portion (14) having an outer diameter of 300 .mu.m and consisting of a silicone resin. The lower coating portion is concentrically surrounded by a coating portion (16) having an outer diameter of 900 .mu.m and consisting of a liquid crystal polymer, e.g., polyester amide. The coating portion is further surrounded by an outermost coating portion (18) having an outer diameter of 1 mm and consisting of a UV curing resin colored for identification. Both the optical fiber (10) and the lower coating portion (14) have positive thermal expansion coefficients. In contrast to this, the coating portion (16) consisting of the liquid crystal polymer has a negative thermal expansion coefficient.

A mobile terminal displays a screen image provided by an image data which is produced. An in-vehicle apparatus is fixed to a vehicle or is mounted on the vehicle to be portable. The mobile terminal sends the image data to the in-vehicle apparatus through communication such that a vehicle display portion of the in-vehicle apparatus displays a screen image provided by the image data. In a case where a communication between the in-vehicle apparatus and the mobile terminal is established, when one of the mobile terminal or the in-vehicle apparatus, in which an input operation has been performed prior to the other of the mobile terminal or the in-vehicle apparatus, is in operation, only the one of the mobile terminal or the in-vehicle apparatus is operable.

An array antenna apparatus in which an SN ratio is improved. Antenna elements having transmission modules, respectively, are arranged in plurality, wherein the plurality of transmission modules respectively have transmission signal generators that each output a transmission intermediate frequency signal, local oscillation signal generators that each output a local oscillation signal, and transmission mixers that each mix the transmission intermediate frequency signal and the local oscillation signal with each other, thereby to carry out frequency conversion to a transmission high frequency signal. A reference signal source inputs a reference signal to the transmission signal generators and the local oscillation signal generators. The transmission intermediate frequency signal and the local oscillation signal are synchronized with each other by the reference signal.

A transmission module including a power supply voltage control unit that sets a power supply voltage to the high frequency amplifier in a variable manner, and a control circuit that controls an amplitude control unit, a phase control unit and the power supply voltage control unit. The control circuit and the power supply voltage control unit control the power supply voltage in accordance with an output power of the high frequency amplifier. The transmission module can carry out not only phase control but also amplitude control in a continuous manner, while suppressing amplitude and phase variation, and a high frequency amplifier in the transmission module is made highly efficient. In addition, a large directional gain, a low side lobe level and a low power consumption are achieved, as a phased array antenna apparatus using a transmission module.
