A salty water absorbing composition, salty water ice packs, and salty water absorbing packs used to preserve freshness of meat, fresh fish and shells, vegetables and other watery food when they are transported over a long distance. The salty water absorbing composition and packs containing the composition absorb drippings or exudation discharged from such food, in particular the salty drippings, which ooze from the fresh fish and shells and other marine products. The salty water absorbing pack containing antibiotic materials is accommodated in a bag made of paper sheet coated with a perforated polymer to construct a salty water absorbing pack. The salty water ice pack is obtained by absorbing the pack with salty water and freezing.

The invention relates to solid polyelectrolyte membranes and processes for their production. As solid polyelectrolyte materials, there have been known fluoropolymers which have perfluoroskeletons and side chains bearing sulfonic acid groups and heat-resistant resins which have hydrocarbon skeletons and contain alkylsulfonic acid or alkylphosphoric acid groups introduced thereto. The fluoropolymers are excellent in heat resistance and chemical resistance but have the problem of being expensive, while the heat-resistant resins have the problem of being poor in chemical resistance. Further, solid polyelectrolyte materials having higher electric conductivities have been desired. With the purpose of providing solid polyelectrolyte membranes having satisfactorily high electric conductivities and being excellent in heat resistance and chemical resistance and processes for producing the membranes, solid polyelectrolyte membranes are made from resins bearing both phosphoric acid groups and sulfonic acid groups which resins are obtained by copolymerizing a monomer bearing in the molecule a phosphoric acid group and an ethylenically unsaturated bond with a monomer bearing in the molecule a sulfonic acid group and an ethylenically unsaturated bond.

A process of producing glycidyl ethers of monohydric or polyhydric phenols is disclosed, which comprises mixing a monohydric or polyhydric phenol, dioxane or diethoxyethane, and epichlorohydrin; adding to the mixture an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide and subjecting to azeotropic distillation water, dioxane or diethoxyethane, and epichlorohydrin, followed by liquefaction of the distillate to be divided into an aqueous layer and an organic layer, and circulating the organic layer to the mixture whereas eliminating the aqueous layer. According to this process, the content of hydrolyzable chlorine which cannot be removed in a subsequent purification step is minimized and the phenol glycidyl ethers thus obtained are well suited for the use of sealing materials for integrated circuits.

This viscosity-change-detecting apparatus is suitable for providing the function of detecting viscosity change to stirring rotors, stirring apparatuses, reaction apparatuses and semi-automatic synthesis apparatuses.
