Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus and method for producing nonwoven fibrous webs. The apparatus comprises an extrusion die, first and second fluid supplies in cooperation with the die, first and second extrusion capillaries, first counterbores allowing fluid communication between first capillaries and first supply and second counterbores allowing fluid communication between second capillaries and second supply, each first counterbore having at least two first capillaries extending therefrom. The method comprises providing an extrusion die in communication with first and second fluid supplies and the die comprising first and second extrusion capillaries, first counterbores and second counterbores, each first counterbore having at least two of the first capillaries extending therefrom, providing a first fluidized polymer and a second fluid, conveying the polymer through the first supply, first counterbores and first capillaries to extrude a first plurality of fibers, and conveying the second fluid through the second supply, second counterbores and second capillaries.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method for controlling the width of a plurality of extruded filaments comprising providing a polymer supply and an extrusion die comprising a plurality of extrusion capillaries and a plurality of counterbores allowing fluid communication between the extrusion capillaries and polymer supply, providing an adjustable insert for interrupting fluid communication between the polymer supply and at least one extrusion capillary, providing at least one fluidized polymer, conveying the polymer through the polymer supply, counterbores and extrusion capillaries to extrude a plurality of filaments, and interrupting the fluid communication between the polymer supply and at least one extrusion capillary by adjusting the insert. An apparatus for extruding filaments is also provided, comprising an extrusion die, polymer supply, extrusion capillaries, counterbores allowing fluid communication between the capillaries and polymer supply, and an adjustable insert for interrupting fluid communication between the polymer supply and at least one extrusion capillary.
Abstract:
A die tip adapted for extruding a plurality of meltblown multicomponent filaments that includes at least two series of conduits that extend and converge in to the interior of the die tip to convey a multicomponent thermoplastic structure in to the interior of the die tip to a series of capillaries that extend to a series of die opening for extruding multicomponent filaments is provided.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a meltblown die which has a considerable smaller width in the machine direction of the meltblowing process compared to conventional and commercially used meltblown dies. The meltblown die of the present invention has a. a die body; b. a die tip mounted to the die body; c. a first air plate mounted to the die body; and d. a second air plate mounted to the die body. In addition, the small size of the meltblown die of the present invention provides advantages over conventional meltblown die, including improved air entrainment.
Abstract:
An apparatus for forming meltblown material from a molten polymer includes a die configured with channels in the tip of the die through which molten polymer is extruded for forming meltblown fibers. Air plates are disposed relative to the die tip to define air channels proximate to the die tip for directing attenuating air against the molten polymer fibers extruded from the tip. The air channels include a zone of convergence adjacent the apex of the die tip at an included angle that is within a range of about 10 degrees to about 20 degrees such that each of the air channels defines a convergence angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the polymer channels of between about 5 degrees to about 10 degrees.
Abstract:
A method for processing a thermoplastic material that comprises a microwave-sensitive polymeric region, wherein the method includes exposing the microwave-sensitive polymeric region to microwaves; wherein the exposing results in an increase in the temperature of the polymeric region; and processing the thermoplastic material is disclosed.
Abstract:
As described herein, a gateway device may include one or more expansion ports to add functionality. The added functionality can be of any desired type, such as adding telephone call routing capabilities, or high-definition radio capabilities. The added functionality can include new wireless communication abilities, such as adding Bluetooth capability, and the combination may allow greater networked communication.
Abstract:
A composition which provides enhanced removal of aldehydes from the air of the building interior. The composition includes an amino silane and a multivalent metal carbonate and is especially suitable for adding to building product board substrates, such as acoustical ceiling panels and gypsum wallboards. The composition of the invention can be applied during manufacturing or can be post applied to already constructed room surfaces. The composition provides longevity of aldehyde removal heretofore unachieved.
Abstract:
A tibial augment for use with a knee joint prosthesis, composed of annular members of different stock sizes, each size being configured to fit within a cavity formed in a human tibia. The augment may include a stepped distal surface. A provisional (temporary) tibial augment used to ensure a proper fit for the permanent augment is also provided. The provisional may include grooves configured to cooperate with a set of ribs on a tong-like holder used for removing the provisional from the cavity. A pusher for use implanting the tibial augment is also provided. In addition, a system for creating a cavity in a human tibia is also described. The system preferably includes a guide with a slot therein and a set of osteotomes that are inserted within different portions of the slot. Methods for using the tools and/or implanting the prosthetic devices discussed above are also described.

A method, apparatus, and system are disclosed that provide for a secure download of a media asset from a video-on-demand server responsive to a user request. The media asset may be routed to a recorder device for storage purposes. The media asset may also be streamed to a set top box for (simultaneous) playback on, e.g., a television. The media asset may subsequently be played from the storage on one or more media players.
