摘要: Parameters which are related to the rate at which particulate matter accumulates and is reburnt, are monitored and the time at which a regeneration is required and/or the length of time a regeneration should be induced, are derived based on the same. The temperature at the inlet and outlet of a trap in which particulate matter is accumulated are monitored and measures such as throttling the induction and exhaust are implement in addition to energizing a heater disposed immediately upstream of the trap as required in order to elevate the trap temperature and to induce and maintain the reburning during a trap regeneration. The pressure differential across the trap can be used to determine the amount of incombustible matter (ash) which has accumulated in the trap and to modify the regeneration timing. When the temperature of the exhaust gases cannot be raised sufficiently, a by-pass is opened to attenuate cooling of the trap by the low temperature gases.

摘要: A first filter is disposed in an engine exhaust passage. A second filter is disposed in the engine exhaust passage at a location downstream of the first filter. Thus, the first and second filters are connected in series with one another. The first and second filters are designed so that an amount of exhaust particles trapped by the first filter is greater than an amount of exhaust particles trapped by the second filter. A pressure across the series combination of the filters may be detected. The filters may be rejuvenated when the detected pressure across the series combination of the filters reaches a reference pressure.

摘要: An exhaust particle removing system for an internal combustion engine includes two filters disposed within an exhaust passage in series for trapping particles suspended in exhaust gas. The system also includes combustion equipment which is disposed near the inlet of the upstream filter, and serves to burn off the particles deposited on the upstream filter. The downstream filter is coated with a catalyst. The downstream filter is arranged to be separate from the upstream filter by a predetermined distance so that the particles deposited on the downstream filter can be burned off by means of an elevated temperature of gas passing through the upstream filter. The length of each of the filters is essentially equal to or less than the diameter of the inlet of the respective filter.

摘要: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for use in an internal combustion engine into which fuel is injected at a proper timing. The apparatus includes a catalytic trap located in the engine exhaust system for collecting the exhaust particles discharged thereto from the engine and burning the collected exhaust particles under catalytic action. A control unit controls the fuel injection timing in accordance with engine operating condictions. The control unit retards the fuel injection timing when the engine exhaust gas temperature is in a predetermined range and the pressure differential across the catalytic trap exceeds a reference value.

摘要: A first plunger pump serves to inject fuel into the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine during first periodical compression strokes as the crankshaft of the engine rotates. A second plunger pump serves to inject fuel into the combustion chamber during second periodical compression strokes as the crankshaft rotates. The maximum fuel injection quantity during each second compression stroke of the second plunger pump is smaller than that during each first compression stroke of the first plunger pump. A sensor detects load on the engine. A mechanism serves to advance the timing of the first compression strokes relative to that of the second compression strokes with respect to the rotational angle of the crankshaft as the detected engine load increases. The characteristic curve of the rate of the sum of the fuel injections effected by the first and second plunger pumps with respect to the rotational angle of the crankshaft can vary in accordance with the engine load.

摘要: A fuel injection rate deducing system for a diesel engine includes a fuel injection pump and a fuel feed pump. The injection pump has an inlet, an outlet, and an overflow outlet. The outlet is connected to the engine to conduct fuel from the injection pump to the engine to effect fuel injection. The overflow outlet is internally connected to the inlet. A fuel feed line is connected to the inlet to conduct fuel to the injection pump. The feed pump is disposed in the feed line to drive fuel into the injection pump via the feed line. A fuel return line connects the overflow outlet to the feed line at a position upstream of the feed pump. At least some of the fuel conducted to the injection pump via the inlet exits from the injection pump via the overflow outlet and then all enters the feed pump via the return line and the feed line. A flowmeter measures the rate of fuel flow through the feed line upstream of the connection of the return line to the feed line. The measured results are used to indicate the rate of fuel injection via the injection pump.
