The present invention relates to a copolymer for high refractive lens having a refractive index equal to or higher than 1.55, obtained by copolymerization of one or more of the first monomer component having the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 signifies hydrogen atom or methyl radical, R.sub.2 signifies hydrogen atom or methyl radical, and m and n signify integers 0 to 4 in total, with one or more of the radically polymerizable second monomer component, homo-polymer of which has a refractive index equal to or higher than 1.55 and, if necessary, with the radically polymerizable third monomer component, the homo-polymer of which has a refractive index lower than 1.55 and to the lens prepared from said copolymer.

A soft contact lens having a water content of at least 45% and a tensile strength of at least 100 g/mm.sup.2 can be produced by pouring into a mold a composition consisting of 70 to 93% by weight of an alkylene glycol monoacrylate or monomethacrylate, 0.3 to 2.0% by weight of a polyfunctional monomer, 1 to 10% by weight of a monomer having at least one carboxyl group in its molecule and 5 to 20% by weight of an acrylic or methacrylic acid derivative, raising the temperature of the composition from 35.degree. C continuously to effect polymerization, processing the resulting formed product into a lens, and then swelling the lens thus obtained by hydration treatment including alkali treatment.

A laser interferometer for detecting the position of a moving object in a Y-direction when the object moves in an X-direction has a separating optical system that moves in the X-direction at a speed different from that of the moving object. A laser beam is separated by the separating optical system into a reference beam and a measurement beam, which are individually directed toward a reference mirror and a moving mirror on the moving object. The light of the measurement beam reflected from the moving mirror, and the light of the reference beam reflected from the reference mirror are received by a photodetector via the separating optical system, and the photoelectric conversion signal of the interference light is output as information concerning the position of the moving object in the Y-direction. A fixed mirror that is shorter than the moving object can be used because the separating optical system also moves in the X-direction.

The present invention relates to a process for producing a cyanopsia-correctable intraocular lens, which process is characterized by, in polymerizing a monomer capable of forming a transparent lens material upon polymerization to obtain an intraocular lens, adding, as an essential component, at least one member of yellow, yellowish brown and orange colorants and, as an optional components, an U.V. absorber and a crosslinking monomer. The intraocular lens obtained by the present invention has a light absorption characteristic close to that of human crystalline lens and is effective for correction of cyanopsia.
