The beam position correction data for the optical deflecting device for keeping positions of the light beams constant is obtained by detecting the beam positions before the scanning optical system. The recording positions of respective light beams on a recording surface is also detected to obtain an additional correction data for correcting deviations of the recording positions due to uneven optical power distribution of the light beam or astigmatism of the scanning optical system. The additional correction data is added to the beam position correction data to obtain the final correction data, by which the optical deflecting device is controlled.

The photodiodes converts the applied light to a synchronizing signal.

Corrective signals for canceling out a dynamic deformation of the reflecting surface of a rotary scanning mirror are applied to X and Z electrodes of an electro-optic lens. Based on the supplied corrective signals, the electro-optic lens controls the refractive index of a light-transmissive element to refract a laser beam in a direction to eliminate an excessively converged or diverged condition of the laser beam due to the dynamic deformation of the reflecting surface of the rotary mirror. The spatial vector of the corrective signals supplied to the electro-optic lens rotates in synchronism with the rotation of the rotary scanning mirror. Therefore, the laser beam which passes through the electro-optic lens and is reflected by the reflecting surface forms a beam spot on a film, which stays focused at all times irrespective of the angular displacement of the rotary scanning mirror.

Thus, an offset between the spatial light modulation device and the microlenses can be detected. Positional adjustment of the microlens array is performed on the basis of a detected offset amount.

A process for manufacturing tomato products to an established consistency standard by introducing a tomato extract feedstock having an initial precipitate weight ratio and an initial Brix level into a system, measuring these initial conditions of the feedstock, calculating an expected precipitate weight ratio of the tomato selected for manufacture from the feedstock, computing an expected Brix level of the tomato product, which may be done by comparing the initial precipitate weight ratio and Brix level of feedstock and the expected precipitate weight ratio of the tomato product to a programmed relationship between the initial precipitate weight ratio, the initial Brix level, the expected precipitate weight ratio and an expected Brix level of the tomato product to establish this expected Brix level of tomato product and concentrating the tomato extract feedstock until the expected Brix level is achieved. The process represents an improvement over the prior art by enabling tomato processors to use in-line measurement to monitor the consistency of the tomato product being produced.
